Post This may sound weird...

But here goes:

SMELL YOUR AVATAR DVD.

I was hanging around my room today and I took out my Avatar DVD from the case. As soon as I did that, the smell of the freshly-packaged plastic, the Avatar Program Notice, the disc itself, and blu-ray advertisement on the side of the case hit me on the inside like a giant wave of Avatar elation.

Just then every single memory and thought of Avatar cascaded like a raging waterfall throughout my mind. I was back in April this year over a friends house watching Avatar on his HDTV for my first time. Memories of PAD being stronger than ever, memories of first joining these Avatar forums, making my short film, drawing sketches of Jake and Neytiri in my spanish class, memories of thinking about NOTHING but Avatar every second of the day...it all came back. "I was free..." so to speak.

This feeling lasted only a split second. Then just as quick as it arrived, it had left.

My Avatar DVD's scent is not the only thing that happens to trigger memories. Whenver I drink Monster energy, I become teleported back to the midnight opening of Modern Warfare 2 on November 10'th, 2009...when a group of friends and I pulled an all nighter on CoD. I drank many Monsters that night...

The feeling of briefly getting thrown back in time, even for a split second to me is one of the weirdest yet most awesome feelings ever. You're going to have to try this yourself...but don't go nuts over it. Smell the inside of your case once and then shut it. If you oversmell it, then overtime it probably will lose it's luster and not have the same effect. Let me know if you get the same experience I did...

Thanks for actually reading this. I do feel kind of odd posting this, this isn't necessarily the thing you'd expect to see on a forum, but it was something that has been eating away at me for a while and I just had to share it.

I have things like this happen to me often actually, where a smell or taste will remind me of memories. Some good some bad, but you're definitely not alone with that. Like whenever I walk into a Noodles and Company and smell fresh Soba Noodles I remember the first time I had entered Noodles and Company in Downtown Denver with a bunch of my Anime friends at lunch time. The memory seems so real but then is gone within seconds.

Well it didn't really work for me. Who knows, it might work in the future.

Although you are not alone in the way that smells can remind you of past events. It happens to me sometimes, if I smell something, it can make me remember things. The smell can be specific/relevant to that particular event, or it can even have nothing to do with that event, but will still trigger my memory and cause me to remember past events.

It definitely sounds weird, but I think it's rather intriguing how smells can remind oneself of past events.

NOT weird at all!!! I will be just goin' thru my day & a sight/smell/sound will bring back intense memories--the longer you live, the more things will trigger good/bad/sad/happy thoughts--just savour the ones that bring good memories & learn/re-learn the ones that are sad.

I remember the good times I had with my Father--the smell of warm Castrol oil from a 650 Triumph Bonneville--the feel of wind thru my hair on a autumn's day in a 1949 Jeepster convertible--Sad lessons learned--the gut-wrenching feeling of a wreck in a 1964 Triumph Spitfire one fine summer's day---Sorrow at the loss of my Aunt Regina to cancer.............

Remember & learn--the past is one of your best friends.........Drink at the well of memories & taste the tang of the water.

^this. It's happened to me before as well, sometimes good, sometimes bad.

A few days ago I was listening to Back to Earth by Cosmic Gate, it made me remember making my first post on AF all the way back in January. (Damn, it feels like that was a lifetime ago) I got that warm fuzzy feeling you get when someone understands you.

lol this is like that topic that challenged you to type AVATAR with your forehead. I tried sniffing the case just now and I it smelled papery but it didn't bring back any past memories or anything. I'm glad it did for you though Hunter.

It's not weird that you experienced this. People go through this all the time. Certain kinds of smells, sounds, tastes and bring you back to a time where it was more relevant at that moment in time. It happens to me a lot.

I don't think it's weird. There are certain scents that take me back to a certain memory and I have to stop what I'm doing for a few seconds... Can't say I've got anything that takes me back to the first time I saw Avatar in theaters. =/

Sights/smells/tastes will often trigger strong memories associated with them. Happens to me all the time.

Yup, happens to me all the time too - and just as you say, Hunter, it's one of the most awesome feelings ever.

Whenever I look at the lights reflecting off of my pool at night it reminds me of when they swim through the bioluminescant river. Whenever i swim at night I feel/pretend to be in pandora. Its about as close as I'll get /
