What should piss people off isn't the existence of the XXX movie or the Fleshlight. It's the fact that doing a piss-take for profit is legal, whereas a sincere homage done for free (fan fiction) is illegal, and is only allowed because the Avatar copyright holders don't care to sue anyone.
In other words, I could make and sell "2 Na'vi 1 Cup" and no one could say a thing, because parody is considered "protected speech"...but I can be sued for giving away my Avatar fiction if whoever owns the copyright decides to enforce it. Fortunately, most copyright holders (including, apparently, Avatar's) have realized that it's counterproductive to sue your fan base...but Paramount has proved with Star Trek that it can be done. As far as the XXX version/Fleshlight ruining your enjoyment...in this modern world, anything that more than ten people like will be exploited for financial gain in any way possible. So even if you started with something free (instead of a for-profit movie like Avatar), it'll eventually get used in a toothpaste commercial. And there will be ugly plastic Chinese toys, probably coated with poisonous lead paint. So just smile and respectfully decline, knowing that your dreams and desires (no matter where you found them) are not for sale at any price.

Well, it depends... It's not illegal as in the police will come after you for posting a fanfic somewhere. It's only if whoever owns it decides they don't want you to then they first have to ask you nicely. 99% of people don't do that because they realise it's an insanely stupid idea.
I have no problem with parodies either. As for things like this, people DO have fantasies and you can't deny that. There's no reason to say that it shouldn't be done any more than you could say that people shouldn't roleplay it if they want...
