According to Moller they are on the way (although he has said that for quite a while now). But at least there is a prototype. By the way, the flying machines of the Moller corporation are called volantors and they were the source of inspiration for the flying machines in Avatar:

I wish... There are so many attempts at developing practical ones, but some companies just don't have the potential, but attract too much interest, resulting in a loss of enthusiasm and people taking it seriously.

The only flight demonstrations have been hover tests performed by a Skycar prototype that for insurance reasons was tethered to a crane.[16] The ongoing failure of the Moller company to actually fly an M400 led the National Post to characterize the Skycar as a 'failure', and to describe the Moller company as "no longer believable enough to gain investors".[17]
I wish it was soon, but unfortunately, while it will happen, it's still not that near

I never understood the idea of four individual motors.. that's just so unstable! It needs a bunch of computers controlling the motors to keep it straight. A "classic UFO looking" circularly shaped device with one electrically powered big rotor (the driver sitting in the axle) would be much more realistic to actually get to fly reliably.

Terminator 2 is nearly 20 years old and is still awesome.

Exactly. Star Trek TNG (and DS9 and Voyager which are based on it in terms of technology and visuals) is still the benchmark though, it originates from the 1980s and still looks futuristic. It just needs to be well designed.

Exactly!! The Comm panels look right up to date today & you can imagine a smaller cell phone working just like the Comm Badges. Turbo lifts will be here soon---The one I'm waiting for is the Holo deck--I'd guess that those will be 10~15 years off at current development.

Yeah, but even the GUIs for the control systems and similar, if slightly more outdated than other parts, still look plausible. In terms of the ships, I still find it hard to believe that TNG and DS9 were actually filmed with models, with effects added in postproducton rather than pure CGI (Voyager's visuals were pure CGI).
