Well, considering Blu-rays have enough capacity to hold 9 hours worth of 1080p footage, I wouldn't be surprised if the 8 hours of special features are in HD.

Yes, it's just that sometimes special features for movies are all in SD.

Also I saw this as well on the Amazon page for it:

"Special Features Are Unrated, May Not Be High Definition"

I'd guess they are HD, as everything was filmed in HD. Also, the reason the original bluray rerelease was the film only was to maximise quality by having as little compression on the actual video as possible, I'd guess they're doing the same here

I agree on everything that was actually filmed. As for the CG part.. they probably didn't render "useless" stuff in full resolution as it takes ~15 hours per frame. So don't expect Pandora in 1080p.

~15 hours for the full detail. The virtual camera was capable of rendering at that quality in realtime - as is just about any GPU, any decent one being able to do it at higher than HD resolution

Now I really didn't understand what you said.. ? What do you mean by "Virtual Camera" ?

Of course _something_ can be rendered real time.. but 4K or even 1080p, definitely not.

EDIT: If you meant that any "decent" GPU can render real-time Pandora >1080p, you are just wrong that's all.

I meant the camera that was built for Avatar to see how the motion capture would look that showed the 'unfinished' footage in realtime to show how a shot would look - and no, I meant that the unfinished footage would be easy to render in realtime, not the finished product

Here is some more information about the Collectors Edition.

Cameron also went into detail regarding the copious special features on the upcoming Collector's Edition. The feature-length making-of documentary Capturing Avatar will have a runtime of around an hour and a half - although an hour was cut because, as Cameron said, they "couldn't have a documentary about the movie that was as long as the movie."

There is also 45 minutes worth of deleted scenes, some of them finished for the BD release. An interactive scene deconstruction in disc three will show the various stages of production with three different viewing modes. Cameron said that feature was "like geek heaven."

Very unfortunate that he shortened the documentary. I certainly didn't mind a two and a half hour making of documentary.

It's unfortunate he had to shorten the documentary by an entire hour. I suppose he must have had a good reason if he cut that much.
