Default Cameron asked to direct Cleopatra(?)

James Cameron has according to rumours in newspapers been offered to direct a 3D movie about the famous queen Cleopatra, with Angelina Jolie in the leading role. He has not accepted the offer yet (better he concentrates on Avatar 2 instead. And also the 3D documentary about the Amazon).

It seems that Cameron now has decided not to direct Cleopatra.

A wise decision, if it was a decision. I half suspect the 'Cleopatra' stuff was some kind of elaborate bluff by Cameron.

Good news
Although since we already have the date for Avatar 2 now, not huge news any more

Always got the constant diatribes thrown at me when I was younger about how "amazing" and "epic" and "astounding" the original "Cleopatra" was.

...Then I actually watched it.

Good for Cameron.

Which 'original' Cleopatra? 1920's or the 1950's? It is a hugely epic movie but it doesn't really matter it would be a 'remake' no matter what.

Cameron also passed on Forbidden Planet. He realizes that Avatar is his main focus and has a huge fan base that is anxiously waiting for the sequels. He also knows that a project of this size needs all his attention to do it right.
He knows what he's doing.

The 1963 version. The Taylor/Burton/Harrison one.

The one we all know.
