This is what my hair is styled after (Matt Damon). I don't think I change it. I can't stand it when my hair is long.

Probably for convenience I'd braid it like Neytiri has hers. If I didn't have to keep it from tangling I'd just wear it loose, medium length. Makes me wonder how good the Na'vi's hairbrushes are.

I love having long hair...

I'd guess Na'vi have good ways of taking care of their hair, probably some plants that must be really good for it, maybe even speed up growth

Yeah, Neytiri's hair looks really well brushed in the scenes that it's not in braids......but I can imagine tribal life would be hard with long hair. Even if they did have good hairbrushes.

Some of you have some hilarious responses.

I didn't really think Grace's hair would be that much different from the other Avatars though. Other that it being a little more loose and a few braids on each side, it's pretty much the same.

Long hair, short hair... it's all fine with me. I think I'd try everything over the years. Then again, I'd probably also go round trying to gather/hunt/eat every kind of edible plant/animal/misc, climb through every kind of tree and tsaheylu with every kind of vertebrate.

i would have my hair braided, but not like Neytiri's. I guess you can say it would be like corn rows, all gowing from a front to back direction. It's just like your character in the game, looks cool

Yeah, like some others said, the mowhawk is something you gotta earn.......

Native americans had the same system, IIRC.

Anyway, I would keep the queue part intact, but let the rest just hang all over my head.

I have really thick hair, and it just goes straight up if i let it grow out, so I wouldn't mind having long hair that would just hang around my head wildly.

I don't think it was so much a thing you have to earn as it is more of a trend certain tribes used to follow. Not that you didn't need to earn it, but most old Native warriors you see who have mo hawks come from tribes where a lot of other males have it as well. Whereas in other tribes, none of the members including males had mo hawks.

But I do think Jake had to earn it to have his hair that way.

I would just have mine like Jake's first hair style. simple and less percular than his new mohawk.

Me personally, I would like to use the system the Na'vi use where they appear to "earn" the right to wear certain hair styles. My personal favorite would be the "War Hawk".

I don't see how they actually earn it... it looked more like a choice to me. Peyral (if you assume that's her) had it while going with Jake to bond with an ikran. Eytukan didn't and had full hair, various male and female Na'vi both didn't or did, including some children with it. Jake didn't even when he was fully one of the clan.

Oh?

I always thought it was something that was only socially acceptable amongst them if you were a really fearsome warrior or something.

I also thought that Native Americans did that too.

Oh well......

Well, Na'vi != Native Americans

Technically, while some native Americans did and it was named after them, not all did and there is evidence of the style being at least 2000 years old and being developed by multiple people in different areas, due to appearance I guess.
(and really, the Na'vi style isn't truly one because it's longer and goes back and down in braids rather than up, people just refer to it as one because it's similar with the shaved sides and relative length in the middle)
