How dare they treat these creatures in such a disrespectful way, anybody with a heart can see how cruel this is! If a human was treated like this, somebody would do something but because crabs are 'less important', nobody cares, just ... URGH!! Not quite sure I see why they want to eat live crab though... That's pushing the bounds of weird for me juuuuust a bit...

The idea is that they are bought alive, brought home, and cooked immediately. If any of you are familiar with how crabs are prepared, they ARE cooked alive, not killed first. If its already dead, then its spoiled.
For those of you saying they should be in an aquarium, they are only kept in aquariums for long term storage. Its not uncommon to just put a bunch of em in a bucket and let em sit there in a store. The only other alternative is to prepackage them using processed methods which isn't exactly always appealing. Is a vending machine really that different than having them sit in a dry bucket all day? If anything I'd say the vending machine is more "humane" for the crustaceans. Nothing surprising here. Used to have fresh crab cooked a lot at home. Its food.
