It would be illuminating if it were possible to quantify the point at which the risk of entering the medical system became worth it. Just setting foot in a hospital carries a risk, not the least of which is, infection. (The "superbugs" got started in hospitals.) Going for an innocuous procedure carries a measurable risk of serious consequences including death due to medical error. It would be extremely unwise to go for procedures or even many types of test just for the heck of it.
So theoretically it would be possible to compare the (stochastical) risk of foregoing a procedure or test to the (empirical) risk of entering the medical system and decide which was, uh, riskier. Some of the doctors in Canada are getting this message and advising their patients accordingly; fewer so in the United States since they stand to make more money from procedures and tests there. But it's entirely a subjective call at the moment. Objective quantification would be difficult, but not impossible. |

alright, just gonna put my two cents in, very short too lol. i know men shouldnt be discriminated against, but neither should women. we have been mistreated for CENTURIES! thats why we have feminism. it is not sexism if we have been mistreated for so damn long
(not getting angry at anyone or trying to argue, this is just an opinion lol)

So you justify it based on perceived past actions? Wouldn't it make sense to focus on the present instead?

Well said. A lot of perceived (yes, perceived) slights get taken too seriously while too many people think sexism in the other direction is acceptable.

On one side of the coin, I spent the day in ER acknowledging yes I am in many ways grateful for the medical system. I had a dizzy spell and almost fainted at work this morning, ghostly white, cold sweat, shakes, the whole works. So spent 6 hours in ER going through a whole series of tests. On the other side though, after all that all that they could tell me was they don't really know what it was, maybe a hypoglycemia episode, but they are not certain. Otherwise I'm perfectly healthy as far as they could tell! This is why I don't depend on the Medical System, cause its usually the same response I get(for me), and why I turn to Alternative Medicine for more concrete answers. Alternative Medicine is more likely to help me 'root' out the underlying issues, including physiological responses to grief, stress, etc. Everything is mind/body/spirit connected!

I've always made things work fine with just myself and occasionally real medical science, but glad you hear you feel better... I think that's the root cause, it's whatever a person thinks will work, as the body's regenerative abilities are certainly amazing, as shown by people on placebos who are suddenly 'cured'.
