I would ask the family of the deceased what they would want done to shun away the protesters. That way you don't have 2 pissed off groups.

The WBC came to my town not too long ago to hold a so-called protest outside a synagogue. A lot of people were speculating what to do about it, but many of the prevailing heads at my college just said to ignore them and not feed their hunger for attention. I never saw them the day they came, partially 'cause I did decide not to give them an audience. (Still, there's a part of me that just wants to completely troll/rage at them somehow...)
They even list the places that they're going to here on their website. How anyone can thrive off of such hatred and negativity is beyond me.

Also, I've heard that Fred Phelps wants people to sue him so that he can win the cases on the grounds of free speech and end up collecting huge amounts of legal fees, which the WBC can spend on other trips around the country. Provocation can potentially be counter-effective. It sucks.

Don't know if it's been mentioned already, but there is a organization that likes to deal with the WBC when they protest the funeral of a service member link
I personally can't stand them, a good bit of what's wrong with society is wrapped up into this one f****d up group

The only "Christian" rip-off cult I can think of that's worse than Fred Phelps's Westboro Baptist Church is Darwin Fish's "True Church" Church. They not only "thank God" for 9/11, they say God caused it, and for "good purpose".

Some good news... A group called the patriot riders are coming as well. You can look o their website if you want but they go around and give the family their respect and shield them from the protesters. I was watching the news this moring and I cant decide who is more ignorant. The WBC or Bill O' Reilly

Lol they showed up but somewhere between 1000-2000 people showed up to counter protest them. Someone slashed their tires and all the repair shops refused to help them. the supportest chanted USA and followed them out of town. It was awsome.
