Entei was such a giant big pain to capture, because you had to do some stuff and then he'd randomly pop up O_o Ho-oh, lugia, Zaptos, Articuno and Moltres, Mew 2 and that thing from Diamond are pretty easy
(given you know the location of Ho'ho, Lugia, Zaptos, Articuno and Moltres) xD

although the pokemon from the 3rd gen have been shiit. hopefully these new ones are good

The new pokemon in Black and White arent all that great. Theres maybe 3-4 that I actually really like D: Seems to me like they didn't care about how the pokemon looked, but instead focused on the visual aesthetics of the game.

I haven't finished any of the games yet (just got yellow and emerald), but I have about 400 pokemon cards, about 25 of them rare and holographic, all in near mint condition.

Nope.
I play competitively on Battle Revolution and (I used to) on Pearl. Pokemon, despite public opinion, is only a children's game on the surface. I am part of a community that uses the "invisible" stats and mathematics in the game to create superior pokemon. On the surface, the game is very, very simple. You catch a pokemon, train it up, and it learns new moves and grows up into an adult through evolution. But there is much more to it than that. For example, there is the Effort Value system. The Effort Value system, or "EVs" for short, is a means to actually increase the stat gain that your pokemon gets each time it levels up while it's leveling up. It works like this; let's say you have a LV 40 Charizard. You go up against a LV 35 Blissey, and win. You can't see it, but the game has just added two "EV points" to your base HP stat. The Base Stats are the guidelines for how high each of your pokemon's stats will be in the end. 85 is considered average, 100+ is considered somewhat high, and 60- is considered somewhat low (all of these are only for fully evolved pokemon). If you're curious, use this website to find the base stats for any pokemon released thus far: Smogon University - Competitive Pok Just search for the pokemon in question with the search bar and the base stats for it will show up at the top as colored bars. Anyway, Charizard has a base HP of 78. So now that he has the EV points, he actually has a base HP of 80. Because of this, the number of hit points he will gain when he levels up again might be slightly higher, and thus at LV 100 he will have a higher total HP than another LV 100 Charizard that has not invested any EV points in HP. This is where the vitamin items in the games come into play. Each of them grant +10 EV points to the stat that is listed in their in-game description. However, you may only use them until your base stat in the given category has 100 EV points. So, you can buy 10 units of Carbos, and if a pokemon has 0 speed EV points, it will gain 100 EV points in speed if you use all of the Carboses on it. Every four EV points also raises the total for that stat by one, so if you use all 10 of the carboses, you will see a visible speed stat gain of +25. Every pokemon can only have 510 EV points total, and every stat can only have 255 EV points alloted to it. Most people, if they want to max out two stats, give each of them 252 EV points, because the 3 that are left will largely be wasted. Then they give the remaining 6 to a stat of their choice. After you get the stats of your choice to 100 EV points, the only way to add to them is through battling. Every time you win a battle, the pokemon involved get EV points. The EV points you recieve are based on the pokemon you defeat; for example, Tentacruel is worth 2 Special Defense EV points, purely because that is it's highest base stat. If two or more of your pokemon take part, they split the EV points. For a listing of all the EV points you get from defeating pokemon, go here: Serebii.net Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, HeartGold & Soul Silver Pokdex Use the drop-down bars to select a pokemon; these will show you every single fact about the specific pokemon as of Heartgold/Soulsilver, and you can see how many EV points you get for defeating one near the bottom. Using this system, I can make an Alakazam with 252 Special Attack EV points, 252 speed EV points, and 6 HP EV points, that can move faster and hit harder than a Mewtwo that started at LV 1 and battled against whoever it wished until LV 100. And EVs are only the tip of the iceberg; there's still chaining shinies, chain-breeding (although that is becoming defunct), IVs (individual values), breeding strategies, move combos, types of teams, Hidden Power, and more. If you want to learn how to create competitive teams, I suggest going to the sites I listed and searching for the info there. Smogon has a forum, and although the forum itself is kinda bad, it has articles about how to EV train pokemon (the process of obtaining your desired EV point spread), and each pokemon profile has a number of possible movesets, EV spreads, and item setups. Serebii is good too, but it's better as a encyclopedia/dictionary than a source for strategies or EV spread ideas.

I still have a box somewhere in my wardrobe with a load of the pokemon games I used to have... I had all the old ones too
Gold being my favourite of the old ones. The latest one I have is Emerald, and I still love it, I guess eventually I just got bored of the same thing, although every 4 or 5 months or so I'll end up wanting to play it again, so I will.... xD I loved the cloning glitch on Emerald, I used to do people favours who live near me (who USED to play it..) and give them all free Rayquaza's. xDxDxD That obviously then helped them complete the game so they could then clone. ![]() I have some memorys with those games, still love em.. They just get boring every now and then for me. :/

I've played quite a lot of red and silver in my days... still pick it up every time I see my game boy^^
By the way, if you suddenly can't save any more and your game gets erased it's because the memory in the cartridges is fed by a battery inside of it. Don't mistake the cartridge as broken... it just needs a new battery. At least that's hove the game boy color cartridge is designed... I'm guessing it's the same with the new ones as well. You will notice if the battery is dead because you will still be able to play the game but unable to load or save. Last edited by GP-5; 11-23-2010 at 08:23 PM. |

I just grew out of it over the years, but even if I didn't, I probably still wouldn't like it because it has changed a lot. When it first came out it was like the greatest thing in the world. The first Pokemon games for Gameboy was only Red, Yellow, and Blue. Then I think they went to Silver and Gold or something. Now they are naming the games after minerals I didn't even know existed.
I haven't followed anything about the series in YEARS. But my young cousin is into it now so sometimes I see what's it's like now. I think the cards are a lot different now too.I still sing the theme song though.
