Btw, be patient people. All you can see is the front page of the website, the forum will probably come back after its maintenance. I don't believe Lon threw the data out of the window.

I just had a look at the new site, and while I personally disagree with a few of the design decisions I do think it's a good idea to, as Na'vi a Kepekmì put it, be patient and see how it turns out.

Forum upgrades and migration is always a hugely complicated thing, and it's true that unfortunately often things get lost in the process - sometimes the benefits are worth the effort, sometimes it simply has to be done for technical/security reasons, and sometimes unfortunately the downsides far outweigh the benefits. I can't say for sure which is the case with this AF update, but it's a good idea to have some hope and see how it turns out.

Lon did state that he'll reimport the forum database, but as I understood it it'll only be the posts, not user info and similar things.

Time will tell if it'll end up working out or if the new AF is simply too barebones to work well with the existing community - but, as someone who has made many website migrations and updates, I'd recommend to at the least be cautiously hopeful that it'll work well.

Meanwhile, of course, ToS is working on an upgrade of our own - but in the meantime this version will stay online and fully functional.

what in the blue blazes of Prometheus is that thing occupying the AF domain?! i got a headache after three minutes on there, geez. i see no members, posts, nothing but commercial-style headers and promotions for stuff like disney and such. the rda has truly incorporated my former net home. sad. very sad only.

I hope it comes back as Jak saw, and now myself have seen. It looks nothing like the old site.

Lon just told me everything will be back,but funding it is an issue. I pray everything we loved of the original page is back will threads and photos we enjoyed.

Even if the threads come back AF will have lost its soul.

We always can bring that soul back by helping out make it as it was. Don't forget fans help in many ways to bring back stuff they cherish and love. Be it movies, tv series, and forums.

i understand what you want to do, but i have no intentions of ever returning there, at least in it's current condition of corporate clone twitter-puppetness. AF_Destroyer would have to restore the history of AF, the threads, sections, member histories, so much content like pictures, edits, fan fiction, art, tons of other stuff that was in those pages. sadly, i don't see that happening. *sighs*

i think he just enjoys repeatedly firing waves of missiles in on the sad pile of memories that is all that remains of AF.

It may not bring the old AF back, but it could influence the decision. If everyone boycotts the website without telling a single protest to whom it concerns, the website will just close because there's nobody. With the number of fans in the community, you want to keep every single person.

i think he needs to do more discussion with the members, sounds like hes treating the website as some kind of chore - cutting costs etc. he doesnt really seem interested in the sentimental value of the forum

There is always this place. Just needs some of the threads AF had that we liked. I remember the Zoe Saldana photo thread, Grace,Norm,and so on. Post photos of the main characters basically and scenes from the film of them in it.
