I just wanted to pop in here to recommend the newest addition to my ffn favorites list:

Pelagius Redeemed Chapter 1, an Avatar fanfic - FanFiction.Net

I simply cannot say enough good things about this one. It is one of the wisest and best thought-out interpretations of what happens after the movie. The aftermath is vividly and heart-rendingly depicted, both from the Na'vi standpoint and that of the humans left behind at Hell's Gate. It also treats humanity as a whole with great sensitivity. Mo'at's commentary in the second chapter represents some of the most beautiful insight into human nature that I've seen anywhere in this fandom. Overall, the fic is neither misanthropic nor apologist... it is simultaneously harsh and sympathetic and (above all) honest. There is also some fairly cutting commentary on "the Movement" back on Earth, which is quite rare in fanfiction.

Character-wise, Trudy fans will be glad to know that she survives in this fic, though a bit worse for the wear. Neytiri also plays a starring role, as does Norm. And of course, there's Jake, Max, Mo'at, and lots and lots of Na'vi.

You came back
How do you make up after you've done the unforgivable? Jake and Neytiri have a conversation in the wake of Hometree's destruction, during their first real moment alone following his return as Toruk Makto.

The Last Train Home
Fourteen years after the war, a lone spaceship appears in the sky. The former members of the Avatar program watch its approach – expecting the worst, fearing for their adopted home. Then the ship lands. And suddenly, nothing makes sense anymore.

Five seconds too late
This is a different kind of Jake/Neytiri romance, the story that would've unfolded had she been delayed for just five seconds while trying to reach him following the fight with Quaritch.
