It's kind of hard to say. There was a time when humanity would have looked pretty much like the Na'vi. Would we have been better off if we'd just stayed that way? Another big question is: are the Na'vi progressing or are they locked in stasis? Are they advancing technologically as humans did? Without knowing the answers you can't really point and say: "here's where humans went wrong compared to the Na'vi."

I haven't read yet the Activist Survival Guide, but I can say we all made the world what we wanted it to be, it is nobody's fault than ours. It all started with the first discoveries of mankind, then we thought the discoveries belong to us which is totally NOT.

Humanity has this gift but doesn't try to "evolve" it. Reason. Why do you think there is a conflict between the Sky People and the Na'Vi ? We imagine everyday that an extraterrestrial species could be more or less evolved than us, and we come against a less advanced species but more rational like the Na'Vi. Then come at war with them because we want their resource which makes matter flow without any kind of pollution.

"When you sit on something people wants, that's when you become their enemy".

Which is exactly the point. Earth in 2154 is on the verge of collapsing into a flaming ****heap, obviously humanity took the route that didn't benefit them, they just didn't have the foresight to know that several hundred years beforehand (as in now). Now it's a matter of finding what will best serve humanity, both short and long term. Maybe humanity can take a few tips from the Na'vi, their society seems pretty beneficial.

BTW, my definition of beneficial = short and long term healthfulness, happiness, stability, and sustainability.

You mean from Eywa. The Navi themselves do not control their society as a whole. Its held in equilibrium by an outside force. Or perhaps its more of an inside force.

Wrong. Na'vi society evolved much as human society did, just without the overpopulation that is the root of humanity's problems (itself caused by agricultural development). Eywa does not directly communicate with anyone.

Aaaaactually, we have overpopulation because we have medicine. Most children born are now surviving to have kids of their own, instead of dying before the age of two. Broken bones will no longer - usually - kill us. Neither does your average cholera or influenza outbreak. People live past the age thirty. *shrugs*

If you really want something to blame, it's the combination of decent medicine plus third world countries not quite catching up with the education of women - usually, the more education a girl receives, the latter she has her first child, and the fewer children she has. She can also have fewer children because her children will survive. It's not as simple as 'yay lots of food'.

Besides, the Omaticaya don't exactly seem to be nomadic, so to support themselves, they have to have SOME way of cultivating the local food supply, even if it's a form of farming that uses the trees instead of cutting them down. Like parts of the Amazon, actually.

Their little goddess controls everything. "Protecting the balance" or some such line. The bottom line is, their lives and environment are deeply controlled, to the point of being artificially maintained. Ours are not.

((Hell, they cant even pick a partner without approval from "mother"))

I've been developing my two personality shards for years. However, in recent months due to school and work I haven't really had time to exercise them. They really have come a long way, its becoming easier and easier to slip into their "shoes". Eventually, I hope that they can develop full consciousness.

This really isn't a society comparison on my behalf, but it's the first thing that came to mind as far as pros and cons are concerned.

Pros to being a human: We’re the dominate species on planet Earth.

Cons to being a human: We’re the only species that insists on inventing new ways to destroy ourselves.

Pros to being a Na’vi: Parts of you glow in the dark… who wouldn’t want that?

Cons to being a Na’vi: Humans… and their inability to mind their own business.

Technology isn’t the problem it’s the misuse of technology that results in the corruption our species. It’s just one component rather because you cannot blame technology alone for the corruption of man. We’ve got plenty of other candidates like greed for example.

I blame it on boredom. Most humans don't have to worry about survival anymore so we get bored. I also blame it on curiousity
