Exclamation Avatar sequels to benefit environmental movements

Our next ticket to Pandora will help initiatives here on Earth.

Quote:
In yet another move by James Cameron to pump cash into environmental conservation, the director has announced that the next two Avatar sequels will directly benefit green charities. “Fox has partnered with me to donate a chunk of the profits to environmental causes that are at the heart of the ‘Avatar’ world,” Cameron said. “I didn’t want to make more ‘Avatar’ movies without a grander plan in place.”

This is really stunning when you consider that the first film alone brought in more than $2.7 billion worldwide. A “chunk” of that would be game-changing for environmental groups eager for funding.

No settling for 2D, folks! Extra money for 3D = extra trees being saved!

this is very good news, lets just hope that by the time the next movies are out there will still be a single thing worth fighting for

Nice. Hopefully the money will be donated to relevant environmental initiatives, not just... you know.

The repeat viewings from ToS alone should generate substantial funding

That's great to hear. I'm sure it'll make people more willing to pay the extra ticket cost for 3D.

Well, I'll be! It must've taken some cajoling to get Rupert Murdoch to think that "going green" does not mean having more greenbacks in his purse...

All kidding aside, this is great in a twofold way:
1) it reinforces the environmental message of Avatar and
2) there will be sequels - since it's now almost impossible to back off from that plan with such an announcement made public.
If JC or Fox did that, either of them will be forever tainted as being liars and therefore become black sheep of the movie industry.
And I bet, neither of them wants that to happen. Plus, I do believe that JC is sincere about his environmentalist engagement.

Wiggling bare toes, now waiting for the sequels,

~*Txim Asawl*~

P.S.: JC could also make a move to donate part of the turnover from sales of the novel to environmental causes, too.
