I'm sure you will still be able to find the first one in stores. Although, since I am in the UK, I can't speak for the situation in the States.

The first one will be quite cheap now as it has been around since late 2007.

You don't need to play the first one to play the second. But some of the decisions you make in the first game do affect the second one.

Apart from that ME is one of the best games (IMO) ever produced. So it's worth playing anyway, especially if you like the thought of a Sci-fi RPG.

Mostly trivial changes in my opinion, but yeah, if you miss the first you'll be missing most of the plot. Most of the good plot anyway, ME2 was just a big detour to ME3.

I haven't played ME2 yet, but I have read in the reviews that the decisions effects from ME1 are minor, usually detemining whether a character appears or not, etc.

But to experieince the whole Universe, I imagine it is probably better to play through ME1 at least once. I have read in some player reviews recommending playing ME1 first as it makes the ME2 experience better.

By the way, what is the character creator in ME2 like? Is it improved from ME1?

Just skip the demo and buy the game. Oh, and if you're in the US, GameStop had it on the shelf 2 days ago when I was there for $19, or just get it off steam. I like to have the discs though to skip the painfully slow download.

I like the PC version better because the textures don't randomly pop into view in the middle of a scene, and Antialiasing... and gamma correction for my crappy LCD... it's much more immersive.

No need for Demo. ME2 is assured kick-ass entertainment.

Just bought it today. W00t. I got the collectors edition for 360. It was all they had and it was the last one, the guy was taking it off the shelf when I got there.

I'm ready to go!

Wow. That's all I can say. Thanks for telling me to get this game everyone, incredible.

Played it from 5 in the afternoon to 2 in the morning. That's a long stretch for me.

I never played a game quite like it before. All the stuff you can do, mining planets, talking to crew members, all the little assignments you pick up.

I like to be a nice guy on it. Paragon or something. Maybe next time through I will me real mean and tough.

After every every mission I go talk to everyone, Miranda, Jacob, Jack, and Garrus and they always have something different to talk about.

Spoilers below

I'm just at the part where you land on that planet that the collectors are on. The one with your old crewmember. It took me 7 hours to get this far. But I did all the assignments I could on Omega, I talk to everyone. I don't think I have ever sat down and played one game for 7 hours straight.

Yeah it's like an interactive movie,

I'm surprised that you started from ME2.
