Battle: Los Angeles (Coming 3.11.11)

Just saw it. It was a pretty good film (soundtrack especially). The first part of the movie moved so fast though. I wished they would have slowed it down a bit. Found the emotion rather lacking there but it got on track towards the end.

If you're in the mood to get pumped, I would definitely recommend it.

The beginning just brings you straight into the action, that's something that I really liked.

Okay some major spoilers here:

Spoiler: Movie Scenes 

The opening montage of battle scenes was nice. It made you eager with anticipation for what was to come. The scenes right after about the soldiers personal lives were ok also but right after the invasion started, things were just a bit too fast. You never really got to feel the horror of what its like to be invaded. All you got to see was a burned body or two on the street or inside a car. It didn't really sink in until after the ambush when that wounded soldier was alone by himself scared ****less.

The part where they holed up in the police station moved too fast also. They should have slowed it down more to allow for more planning. In a span of just a few minutes, they all got over their shock, dragged a wounded alien inside to study it, observed an enemy landing, spotted a bus all within a single scene. It would have been nice if that had been extended to about 15 to 20 minutes to let the actor dialog last longer, more struggle to figure out what to do next, etc.

Once you get past the police station scene, this is where the movie gets real good. From here on I have no major gripes. Proper time was given towards character development afterwards. Tactically, I was more than satisfied with the way the war and battles went. Before enemy air support arrived, it seemed as if we were pounding those aliens pretty good (still losing some ground). But after the alien flying drones arrived, we got our asses whooped when the airforce started getting pummeled.

My favorite scene was on when they were on that bus on the freeway fighting that battle. That Abrams tank off to the front seemed to wreck the alien infantry until they managed to take it out. I also liked how the aliens used their own drones to suicide into our missiles to protect their command center.

Yeah, they could have made the movie another hour or so long. It would have made for a better movie with better character development.

Despite a considerable amount of cliches I enjoyed the fast past action. However one thing really bugged me. I don't now if the movie was going for this or not but I never got that strong emotional feeling that Earth and humanity were really threatened. Maybe it was me but I think they should have had more destruction of the cities and residential areas. I do agree that it needed far more character development, I could hardly follow who was who and I couldn't remember a damn name to save my life. It did leave room for a sequel though.

Just back from seeing it! And oh, man, that was FUN. I loved it. My legs are still wobbly because I spent the whole time clenching the with tension, and whee, I want to see it again. With subtitles, so I can catch what they are all saying.

Some corny bits, but overall, it was WAY smarter than I could have been, and utterly fun. I also really liked how they concentrated on that one team in that one city, and not trying to jump all over the place. I really hate it in these things where they spend the whole time in America, and then do a token little shot of all around the world. This way, to me, made it feel more immediate, and yes, the guys on the ground are going to take a while to work out the scope of things. I thought that bit was realistic enough.

And. Yes. Wheeee, that fun.

I went and saw it last night. All-in-all, one of the better alien-takeover movies I've seen. Lots of genre cliches, but well-executed. The dialogue wasn't riddled with groaners either, which was nice.

I thought it was OK. Nothing more.

I found it too sentimental in places and for me the dialogue was cringeworthy. And of course, as usual none of the children are killed.

I hate it when movies use children to build up sympathy.

I really liked Michelle Rodriguez in her role though.
