Finnish is a nice language!
But anyway, I want two pretty girls; Neytiri and Nanak'ai, but I think that won't happen

Dear god never. I love Avatar just as much as the next person here but if I were named Tsu'tey I would not be a happy camper.

I absolutely would later have twins.
![]() And well, I think Jake is a beautiful name. So I like to call my boy. If the other girl would be I would call it Tanhí. Or rather Lilo. (that has nothing to do with avatar) ![]() but that are beautiful names. ^^

"Tanh́" would make a pretty sweet, and relatively harmless name for a girl.
Maybe a little "hippy" sounding, and more so by meaning; but that's just a plus in my opinion. ![]() - Mikko

If I had a Na'vi child, I would give them a Na'vi name. If I had a Human child, I would give them a Human name. That's my logic, but of course, the latter would be more accessible at this time.

Ah yes... Captain Tieve, (From "At World's End")...
"It's not about living forever, Jackie... it's about living with yourself, forever". I kinda like the name "Tanhi". It may not be Na'vi, but it sounds Na'vi. ![]() Tey'Kan

It is Na'vi...
![]() It has two meanings, star, and the bioluminescent marking on the body.

Strange as it may be, I always predict that I'll be naming my children on the fly
I don't expect to have any, after all. However, I wouldn't rule out a na'vi name but would have to think about it some more since I'm not familiar enough with the language.

i cant see that it would be any odder than some names i've seen celebrites name their kids-Dr.Patch Adams named one of his Zagnut, after the candybar, for pete's sake!
but i'm seriously considering a Na'vi name for my new service dog, that is being trained for me. her present name is Bella...fine if you are very feminine and all- Belle from Disney's Beauty and the Beast is what comes to mind when i hear that name. but a service dog is a highly trained animal, who is with you 24/7, who assists you with many things that you may not see or be aware of, keeping you safe. i haven't decided on any name yet, but Mo'at, being one of my favourites in the movie, is a name i keep thinking of. have to see what sort of name will suit her when i get her...Quote:

No I would not, for several reasons.
A. It probably wouldn't help their chances of employment later in life. B. What if they don't like Avatar? Case in point, I have exactly zero IRL friends who like Avatar. C. Resentment over the name could cause them not to like Avatar. D. I already feel that people who name children after anyone who isn't a relative are wrong to do so. John is a fine name, but actually naming your kid after JFK sucks IMO. |

Iron_jones, I'm going to nme my kids Citizen Snips, and Citizen Snaps, better hope you don't live on my block.
No, but in response to the thread, I probably wouldn't, because unfortunately I fear that if people found out they were named after Avatar, they would be made fun of, and I would be ridiculed. And, while I want my kids to be strong in the face of ridicule, I don't want to bring an undo amount upon them.

B. So we're not real? ![]() C. Seems unlikely to me, to be honest. I'm sure there are people who share firstnames with characters from fiction all over the place, or have ones that were inspired by it. D. There are very few people in the world with a 100% unique name. My firstname is originally from a work of fiction, although it has become a relatively common name, and although it's from one I really do not like, I don't dislike it because of that. I did get idiots pointing it out sometimes, but that in itself didn't bother me.

B. IRL friends in terms of close *in-person* personal acquaintances. C. And in some of those cases, I would have to think some of those people became resentful of that. Certainly not everyone, but why risk it? D. No, but if you met someone named John Smith, you wouldn't think he is named after someone like you would if you met someone named John Fitzgerald Kennedy Smith. I get a laugh when some of my IRL friends call me Crickett instead of my real name, but in truth, I think I actually kind of like that. But I gave myself that name. |
