I think people in the middle east should form their own type of democracy, based on the western model of voting ect and we just let them get on with it.
That's wishful thinking though. It's likely another extremist government will take over.

A swift strike with overwhelming force to remove theocratic governments would be the best action, puppet governments could then be installed, these could then secularise the middle east with western values. After this it will be mere decades before a greater western sphere of influence is created.

It's all peace and love from then on.

I suppose we'll have to wait and hope. On a lighter note, Egypt has started it's first election after 20 years or so.
True, but I think I'll concentrate on peace and love for now.

Love is illogical.

Why should it be up to America, or anyone else, to deal with him?
Shouldn't it be the Libyans problem, to accept or reject him as they see?
A previous president once said, upon leaving office, that the US should not go in search of monsters to slay, prolly bcuz there are too many.
I say we should commit no troops, not one.
If France is so all fired up to off him, (why?) then we should only offer support, and a few big missiles.

The Libyan protesters themselves told the west, we can take on the troops, the trucks and the tanks but we have no defence against the air strikes. The protesters actually wanted-pleaded for a no fly zone. The west has delivered and the protestors are celebrating this. A warning though, the west should not do any more than this..Also some Arab neighbours have also sent in a no fly zone in Libya.

I can let my hair down every now and then too. But, as long as logic and tactical planning are appreciated I'll be at peace.

Exactly, it's logical to avoid inconvenience. The easiest way to do that is to get along with people(that's what I've found, anyway). I really do find love(and hate or most other emotions, for that matter) to be illogical. I've unintentionally taken after Spock, I think

In essence they're a waste of human resources. (Just between you and me, religion in general is too. Shhhh....)

Spock, that imperialist/manifest destiny mindset is one of the main reasons the world is in such a **** hole right now. We all know how well it worked in Africa.

Now I'm all for supporting the spread of democracy, secularism, and self government, but the revolutions must be home-grown. Keeping the people of Libya safe from their despot is good, but it's important that they are the ones in charge of overthrowing and rebuilding their own country. Whether it is built to the same standards of the West shouldn't matter. It's their country, let them run it. It's always something I've found rather hypocritical about the West. They support self government, democracy, sovereignty, multiculturalism, etc., but it is at the same time trigger-happy to instill on the world it's own brand of these values.

Tl;dr - Protect Libyans (or any revolutionaries in the Middle East, for that matter)? Yes. Do their work for them? No.

God damn it, an entire generation pumping gas, waiting tables; slaves with white collars. Advertising has us chasing cars and clothes, working jobs we hate so we can buy **** we don't need. We're the middle children of history, man. No purpose or place. We have no Great War. No Great Depression. Our Great War's a spiritual war... our Great Depression is our lives. And we're very, very pissed off." - Tyler Durden

Not if its done properly, the world will forever remain divided if there is never a movement great enough to unify it. Whether that has to be a military movement is debatable.

The best scenario I could envisage would be an alien invasion as crazy as it sounds. This would unify humanity and at the same time disprove pesky 'you know what' beliefs therefore creating a lasting unity.
