But why do we have to convert people in the Middle East to Christianity??? How is that unifying at all, that's just imposing our own belief system onto theirs! From their point of view, they want to convert the whole world to Islam, nothing is more right about either, the point is that we should be able to achieve "unity" over religious precedents.

Once again: Ethnocentrism.

EVERYONE needs to wrap their head around the fact that their religion and their culture only arises from their frame of reference. For Christ sakes, most of these totalitarian governments arose from the Allied forces implementing them in fear of Communism taking them over! If there's to be some unifying force, religion, culture, etc... should have absolutely zero involvement. There needs to be a balance between individuality and unification if we are to achieve peace, and looking at history, this is the toughest balance of all.

Flag the Christianity bit, that was just me blowing off steam. There are better unifying forces out there.

Then perhaps things will get a lot worse before they get better.

Thank you, because honestly if you tried to argue you any further, I was going to hit you with history and current politics *grins* But, just for the record - not everyone living in the West is Christian. Please do try and remember that.

I understand. I would also like to point out to everyone how great of an example this is of self-control and maturity, I'm not sure I can count how many people would've likely retorted defending what they originally posted, even if they were "blowing off steam." Kudos, my friend.

Well it's all a possibility at this point, but all I can say is that we can't go off of hopes or opinions...the world needs people like us that have some level of awareness to take action.

Tsyal Makto is right - the revolution should hopefully lead to secularism, democracy and individual rights. The fact that the people of Libya started it is a good sign, but the UN need to avoid going too far, and not forget there are other countries that need the same as well.

I agree HNM but the reason why we are FINALLY going after Gadaffi is because he sunk to a new low by using war planes against his own people. I hope that the Libyan people will be the ones who finally get rid of him. Those in the west as well as other Middle Eastern countries can deal with these situations one at a time. I'm just glad that something is being done to level the playing field a bit so that the rebels have a chance .

Should I start cross-posting some of the images from the revolutions?

WARNING, GRAPHIC

But yeah, we should just leave them, that's perfectly fine. I'm sure they're just flesh wounds.

Default Situation in Libya

EywaBlessMe, France might want to show such fervent support because they remember the "missed" missile that hit a corner of their embassy when we bombed Libya in 1986, and seeing as the US has clearly taken its stance...

But we shouldn't have to wait for an asteroid or alien invasion to come at us in order to put aside our differences. Within the foreseeable future, nothing is going to come and help us. We have to help ourselves. And if we are to move past these squabbles we have to promote understanding. Having each party mind its own business or enforcing a single world order will simply divide us further.

Then we're left with only one option:

Exactly. That's why these revolutions could be the start of something big.

The people of Libya (calling them 'rebels' isn't really right any more, since they have every intention for forming a democratic government) ASKED for the enforcement of a no-fly zone, because they were unable to counter the airstrikes. As above, the F-15 pilot who crashed and was met with gratitude shows just what the reaction is. It's a great thing, both in terms of people looking out for each other and supporting others' rights, and because it will make the resultant Libyan government likely to be friendly and democratic. There is the usual criticism (Libya has oil reserves), but the way it is being handled so differently to Iraq shows the change in thinking.

If only we could do this..

Why can't we see each other as being human beings as well? *sigh*
