Why I'm done with humanity

Firstly: I did not put this thread in Community Support due to misconceptions over previous threads I have made in there. This isn't any thread asking for answers, advice or anything. This is how I feel, nothing more. So ignore this if you want, but I need to get this out. Perhaps it may seem obvious, but for me, this is an important realisation to accept it, and writing it all out in one place is part of that.

Because I've had enough. I don't want to live on this planet any more.

Humanity never changes. Humans destroy themselves, they become ignorant. We are living in the 21st century, we have all these high concepts, but people still give in to superstition, people still chase special paper, people lock themselves into a tiny world mentality and ignore possibility, the chance to be something far better, to transcend limitations. But what happens? Absolutely nothing.

I how humanity has become, people who are fed how they should be by media. People who no longer see any point in understanding anything, who see intelligence and something boring and negative. People who need the TV and radio to tell then what manufactured, top 40 music to like. People who listen to their invisible friend, who want to spread their ideology and destroy others over a lie. People who are prepared to kill others over some ancient dead plant matter, or for some special paper.

What's worse is the fact that it is possible, although I hope not, that humanity could survive what it has come to. Maybe it's unlikely, and maybe, as a great friend said, the solution is to "Kick back, grab a can of whatever you like to drink, and watch the world fall apart around you.", but can humans be relied on, even for that? I don't think so. Hum,ans could possibly even reach others - with the size of the universe, it is possible that some people, somewhere, have avoided humanity's mistakes. What happens if humans find them, if they end up destroying them too?
Humanity doesn't deserve its existence. Because people will never change, as much as we want them to.

In millions of years, there will be no evidence humans existed. Earth is a single pathetic little planet orbiting a single insignificant star in a tiny spiral arm of a rather unremarkable, pathetic galaxy, one of uncounted trillions. Even if humans will never reach or see everything, they could try. Humans could unite, put the past behind them, become something to truly be proud of, make all our current problems a thing of the past, if only people looked to the future. but they don't, and they never will, because there is always a little bit more money to be had. The potential is huge, but people will never live up to it, and honestly, I'm sick of the way people don't. Because there's always some oil, some money, a war to fight over invisible friends or a piece of land. Perhaps humans will wipe themselves out, and be just a tiny footnote in history, but they could be more. Perhaps extinction is all that can be hoped for, but I want to see more, and in the end, I don't want to see anyone else make the same mistakes as humanity did, and with how badly things often work out, I don't know if even that can be relied on. Unfortunately, this isn't a film, and one person can't change everything. I just wish people would start seeing that they can achieve something much bigger than Earth, than all their jobs and mass marketing, to leave superstition behind and be more than just a tiny part of a tiny planet in a tiny galaxy.
...but unfortunately, that won't happen, so I feel like I might as well give up with humanity.

Take whatever you want from this, I spent hours writing this, maybe it doesn't still feel right, but it's a lot of my feelings right now, and honestly, I can guess what most people will say already. I just needed to write this, maybe it helps with something. Maybe someone will get something from it, maybe not.

Damn... at first I thought this was gonna be a suicide note by the title having "Why I'm done..." before everything, but then I saw it was you and understood.

Can't really comment much except to say if you're done, you're done. But I think you're looking at too many of the negative aspects of everything... Though, even if you believe that the negative triumphs the positive, what are you going to do now? You're "done," so... what's next?

I think the only thing someone could take from this is a massive amount of depression. If you are done with humanity, are you including yourself as well?? It concerns me to hear these things. I agree there are things about humanity that justify getting angry towards or disliking, but there are still many inherently good things about the human race and humans themselves. The human race is relatively young in comparison to other species and there is still a million things for us to learn. I just... don't think its right to abandon humanity completely. Then again, this is only my opinion. But just reflect on what you've been able to do as a human being. Check out this forum, for example. You've literally brought thousands of people from across the globe together, despite the geographic barriers and we've united together in our passion for Avatar. Many of us have even changed the way we live because of it. It makes sense to feel how you do if you only focus on the negative aspects of our short history, but there's so much more to it than that.

Anyways, I know you weren't looking for any advice or whatnot. But these are just my thoughts and you can take what you want from them.

Yes, humans do blindly kill each other over petty issues but not all of humanity is like that. We can change, because we CAN change. I know it. We may be weak but we just have to be. If not, than we wouldn't have any reason to grow....to get strong. I know that it may seem futile to you and others but it's not. You see, I'm sure we can change...because we're weak...and we die. We have to fight in order to live. And that is what will make us strong.

Some clarification, please. "Humanity" by definition means "everyone." Do you include yourself in this description of how people are? Or are you using "humanity" to mean "everyone but me"? Or does it mean "everyone except me and some of the people on this forum"? Or "everyone except me and some of the people on this forum and some other people I haven't met yet but statistically ought to exist"?

I agree with much of what you say as applied to a majority of people in the developed world and a smaller proportion in the less industrialized nations. I do not think they are beyond hope, and as long as I am alive, I will be working to change things. And I am heartened to know that I am not alone.

I'm currently reading Hoodwinked by John Perkins. He is very specific about details of some of the kinds of things you're talking about. It actually sounds worse, to hear him, and read specifics of what has happened and how. But there is also hope, because he was able to get the message out, and is working to build a countermovement.

Humanity has its faults but do please try and remember that change takes time. You say that its already the 21st century but think about how long it has really been. Four generations ago, my ancestors were using a horse and buggy. Yet within that span of a hundred years, we have broken free of so many things. Perhaps its not so much that humanity doesn't want to change but instead humanity needs time for change to fully sink in.

A hundred years ago, in a world torn apart by constant nationalism everyone would have thought that the notion of an International Criminal Court of a Council of United Nations was just an impossible dream. In a business world dominated by massive corporate monopolies such as railroads and steel mills, many would have thought that opposing big business was impossible but look at how large the environmental movement has become. Ten years ago, I would have said that change in the Middle east was impossible but look at all of the new movements among the next generation to cast off authoritarian rule. Tunisia is now set to become a promising democracy.

This post probably will not have much of an effect but humanity doesn't just have the capacity to change, humanity IS changing. More and more people are awakening--more so than in the last few hundred years. It'll take time, change always, does but by ****it we will get there.

I know it sucks, the things humanity does. How hopeless it seems. It seems like things have never changed. Technology got better. Before computers, people worked 8+ hour days. When computers came, they said people would hardly have to work. That everything would be different.

Heh, the work day is still as long; except, now they can make you work from home. Seems like we are going nowhere. I mean really nothing much has changed since B.C.E. times.

But I encourage you to not give up. Maybe my post means nothing, and it probably does, but I want to say this anyway.

Never give up on possibility. With all our technologies, and research into physics, we have found that we can never predict anything. With quantum physics, we have discovered that we can never know anything perfectly. There is always a part of some measurement that is unpredictable.

Two exactly identical radioactive isotopes, with the same half-life, can decay spontaneously at completely different times.

Now that, to me is comforting. The fact that we will never know everything. That no matter what our science says, there is always the possibility that we missed something. The possibility that our physics can be wrong, or things can go unexpectedly. That we anything can happen.

I really don't know what to say, as you don't said you don't want any convincing, but please, don't give up.
