Not good, not good. While I agree that he is bad as he has committed himself to promote criminal behaviour, now in death he will be an even greater role model to people than what he was in life. Better the devil you know. Now he will be seen as a martyr and Al-Qaeda will be sprouting off in all sorts of directions, with different leaders all wanting retribution against America and the West .

Agreed. Cutting the head off a snake doesn't mean it won't writhe around in pain and anger.

This certainly is... "interesting" news. I'll decline from calling it good/bad news, because honestly, I can't say.

In a way, I agree with Pa'li and Advent. This certainly may make more of the situation than any good coming of it. People really need to remember that just because Osama has been removed, doesn't mean that all will be throwing down their arms and surrendering left, right and centre. Quite the opposite, in fact.

Actually, the first thing that came to mind on my part was "An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind." But i'm still debating that, mentally.

Actually, on a little tangent and side note regarding the reaction to the news, I found it really fascinating. People coming out of their houses and apartment blocks, dancing in the street, wrapped in flags, chanting various slogans... those images were really not so different to those you see on a regular basis in places like the Ivory Coast and Syria. I though it to be quite the show of 'tribalism' in that killing another 'tribe's' leader is a cause for celebration... We really haven't changed all that much.
Just a little side thought.

It's not our fight, though. All this foreign interventionism is slowly draining our economy. We gotta face it, we can't be the world's policeman, it's too expensive. I hate him just as much as you do, but there's limits to how much we can manipulate the world without detrimental effects on our country. The military-industrial complex is bleeding us dry. There are plenty of things domestically that that money can be invested in, and god knows we need it.

^ Well said Pali, Advent, and Fkeu'itan, especially that last part, quite an astute observation!

I would say, that I do feel for our American friends, I can appreciate their sense of relief, on this matter, right now!

I think I agree with Pali, Advent and Fkeu'itan - it is interesting news, but I have actually no real idea if it is good or bad. It is big news for the US apparently, people celebrating and all that. It will certainly boost Obamas re-election. It certainly will have a martyr-effect and people from Al Quaeda will be quite angry. In the wake of that of course Obama already declared that this does not change anything and the "war on terror" is continuing (so no post-9/11 era yet). Let's see what happens in terms of policy these days - such events are always a great chance for political leaders to push some agendas and sign some laws that are unpopular otherwise. But I also expect that public pressure on Obama will rise now to "bring the troops home" and stop the war in Afghanistan. If he does that or not will be seen. My guess is not (and that may cost him some of the votes he gained again).
Overall - interesting news...

^Like what I said. I really hope there is more public pressure now to get all the troops out of the Middle East now though.

Lol and immediately eradicate half of American Imperialism? Good joke.

Am I alone in saying that it's a sad day for society when we're out in the streets parading over the fact that we wished someone's death and it came true? I see people on facebook, etc... talking about how Osama is going to "burn in hell" and what not. All I have to say is that the road to hell is paved with good intentions. People need to learn a thing or two about perspectives before we start chanting "AMERICA!!!" From his perspective, he was doing a great justice to his people and to society. He killed 2 thousand Americans - pretty similar to how the United States killed millions of civilians and people in Vietnam and thought it was doing a great justice to the world's people and Capitalism. Well, Vietnam is still a Communist nation, and similarly, there will still be insurgency and terrorism with or without an old guy on dialysis roaming the mountains/mansions of the Middle East. Thank you, that is all.

Can't say what the long terms effects will be yet, but it is still a good thing to happen, at least.

I don't see how people on here don't like the fact that a mass-murdering terrorist, who orchestrated countless suicide bombings, IEDs, assaults, and other forms of terrorism all of the world, killing thousands upon thousands of people, caught a few slugs in the head. @EywaBlessMe, that idea about dragging him through Mecca made me laugh, but I'd want them to tie him to a pole and let each American get a chance to stomp his face and mock him. Or wait, I just thought of something better. Drop him from an airplane at an altitude of about 80,000ft with no parachute or protective clothing. Let his body slowly be peeled away skin layer by layer till he's nothing but bone by the combination of the ever-increasing speed of his naked free-falling body, the wind chill, and air friction.
Surprise to anyone, who didn't think I could have a sick sense of punishment. jk
