If he was taken to the US, that is a whole mess of laws and regulations and things to do regarding extradition, and ironically he would have been executed anyway following all that (and in doing so, arguably annoy more people since it happened after his capture), while considering as that Pakistan are more embarrassed they didn't find him themselves than anything else (although are arguably at least partly complicit in his living there undetected), and while a little discretion is still a positive, remember that he did murder 3000 people in one single incident plus hundreds more in numerous others over nearly 20 years, and indirectly cause the death of many more in wars.

I should add, that I'm not saying Osama Bin Laden being killed was a bad thing. I just regret seeing so many people feel justice has been done; Justice has only begun.

In a perfect world, it should of been his own community that brought him to some sort of justice.

This was a hit, plain and simple.
The US should not be in the assassination business because we like to say how we are better and more moral than thuggy nations.
But some words are hollow.
He was offered a chance to surrender but refused so he was shot instead. He himself was also armed. Attempting to do so would have resulted in the additional risk of possible death and/or injury of those involved in the raid.

Just curious, where did you hear that he was armed? All the reports I've been hearing have been saying that he was unarmed.

I heard there were weapons on a floor somewhere but Bin Laden didn't have one.

There were a lot of conflicting reports out there. Some said he was armed and did contribute to the firefight, other say he had a gun but did not use it, others say he was unarmed. The first press release by the White House did say so, that was where I became confused.

What is consistent is that he did actively contribute to resistance whether armed or not, was offered a chance, but refused to surrender.

The exact details on the raid are still obscure but it would be best to reserve judgement until more are released. Chances are. the SEALS probably thought that he could have been armed, concealed or not, but turned out that he wasn't upon closer inspection.

To quote a great, "whats done is done".

The important thing is we move on from this. The face of the muslim world will no longer be tainted by one madman. Instead it will be the face of progressive revolutionaries. We should begin a new relationship with the Middle East. Not one built around war but democracy. THAT would be justice.

Sadly, people need to change too, and to leave such things behind. He was not the only problem there, just the face of it.

Probably what's worse is that all the right wingnuts here are crowing about how "enhanced interrogation" (ie torture) worked because a name of a courier was divulged, he was followed, and bin laden found and whacked.
EXCEPT Christianne Amanpour was on Realtime with Bill Maher, and said how bin laden was not in a cave but in a villa in Pakistan, nearly FOUR YEARS ago.
So instead of justifying torture, and instead of validating emperor w, his gang of idiots, and eight years of mistake after mistake, how about we ask why the cia had to torture info that a clever reporter could find by asking the right people the right questions.
