Default Peter Jacksons King Kong

Is there someone who has seen Peter Jacksons King Kong (2005)? It is quite true to the original movie from 1933 but it uses all of the modern animation technology. Unfortunately it in some ways reproduces some of the stereotypes from the original movie, especially regarding the native people on King Kongs island, who are described as a rather savage tribe that sacrifices their young girls to King Kong. It seems that those girls are just ripped apart by King Kong, and perhaps also partially eaten. The funny thing is when the white heroine of the movie is given to King Kong then he lets her live and even develops an affection (or even love) to her, that he obviosly never shown any of the native girls. So it seems that the fillm also reiterates the old myth of the superior beauty and attractiveness of the white woman, even to an ape.

When it concerns the environment on the island where Kong lives the director is at his best. The environment is lush, living, beautiful and threatening at the same time. It teems with interesting animals, from King Kong himself to dinosurs, giant lizards, flying things (which looks like a cross between pterosaurs and bats), giant insects, centipedes and slugs, and a lot of other creatures. Some scenes on the island are simply amazing, as the sauropod stampede up in the mountains of the island. In several occations the environment and the fauna of the island is actually as fascinating as that on Pandora.

What did you like the film?
