Interesting Pandora-like plants I found... - Tree of Souls

Those of you that know me, know that I am always outdoors doing something.

Today I went 4X4 and hiking up in the mountains and found some really neat plants that resemble stuff you might find on Pandora. I have seen all of them before, but not all in one hike.

(sugarbowl)

(purple fringe)

(shooting star)

not sure on either species here...(I'm sure Raiden could tell us.)

awesome pictures, makes you wonder if Navi's were really small instead bigger then humans they might fit right at home here on earth, i'll donate my garden to a tribe or two

Roosevelt National Forest, near Lyons Colorado. about 7,000 ft elevation. It is pretty stunning.

I was wondering the actual species of bee, it was pretty massive.

Looks like a common honey bee to me. Of course I am no bee expert but they are a pretty common site around my area.

Nope.

This is a Hymenopteran in the genus Bombus, not the genus Apis.

To be precise, this one is Bombus Vosnesenskii, also known as the Yellow-Faced Bumblebee.

There are several species of Bumblebee, and this one is one of the more common ones in the Western United States. Different species are typically identified based on the color of the hairs on their body segments; Yellow-Faced Bumblebees are the only ones with yellow hair on their head segment, and are named as such.

The tri-color bumblebee (Bombus Ternarius), for example, has a band of rusty-red hair coming out of the middle section of abdominal segments, and so has three colors of hair on it's body, and got its name that way.

The first one kind of reminds me of something like a cross between the bioluminescent lamps and the big flowers you see hanging from the trees in the night scene.

I said I wasn't an expert! Now when it comes to dinosaurs......
I wish some of the stuff in my yard as in bloom. I have a plant that shoots out this massive bloom. Its about 5 feet tall. The "trunk" is a bright orange and its "branches" slowly fade to white, with vibrant purple berries on the end. I really wish it was happening right now as it is awesome to see.

Me entire backyard is pretty much a jungle. I have all sorts of bizarre plants. The only thing in bloom right now is this hibiscus.

Yes it hangs upside down like that. Right now there is only the one flower, in about a month the whole tree will be covered with them.

There are also lots of Aloe plants that have pretty amazing blooms. They aren't as large as the other plant but are just as interesting. None are in bloom now but here is a nice set of photos I found online

Coral Hibiscus (Hibiscus Schizopetalus) has always been one of my favorites. It almost doesn't even look like a Hibiscus because of the strange-looking flowers, but the length of the stamen and the positioning of the anthers gives it away.
