Default One step closer to "soylent green" - meat made from sh*t

YouTube - ‪Solution to the Global Food Crisis - Let them eat TURD BURGERS!?‬‏

This is absolutely disgusting. But hey - it's recycling - just be sure to cook it really well!

Ehh to quote Gollum

"Give it to us raw and wriggling" hmm wait maybe that is not the best quote to use here.

Anyway I will keep eating natural meat thank you. No excrement meat products for me.

I find that research to be rather useless, as all Human excrement is made of is the things we don't digest, and what's left over.
e.g, toxins, non-food objects, partially digested clumps...

Its the bacteria they're after. They reprocess the excrement and are full of protein themselves.

Great stuff, one step closer to 100% independence.

I hate to sound so right wing, but if we had fewer people on this overcrowded polluted planet, then we could eat real food and not recycled crap.
Even tho most of the food I eat is artificially colored and flavored crap anyway.
Just my two cents worth.

Is that really right wing? Shows how much I know about politics of any kind. I definitely agree with you. I have called myself a "population reductionist" in the past It's true, pretty much all the big bad problems would go away if there were way less of us, and I don't feel selfish for saying so.

Good for people and the planet. A win-win if you ask me.

I've always thought that population reduction was more of a leftist/environmentally minded ideology. In the US it is usually the [religious] right that is telling people to keep having children en masse.

Actually overall I am really a dirty commie/socialist, I just see it as a system that would work better. You have to set it up right and have the correct people running things(me). Actually I really support Plato in this idea. Set up a government run by "Scholar Kings" and the world would be a much better place.

Hmm that got off topic.

Reluctance to eat these burgers reminds me of the reluctance people have to eat insects, even in a controlled environment at the insectarium here. In my opinion, insects are generally pretty awesome as food

I find insects to be rather similar to these 'crap steaks'. Perfect survival food, but exactly that. Only if you want to survive.

Hmm - I think I would not mind eating insects at all. If they are prepared properly, why not. After all, shrimps and other crustacaeans are very closely related to insects and IIRC most people in the world do eat insects as part of the diet (not to mention the nice yummy larvae in the NA'Vi dinners XD ). But eating things that the human body refused to take is kind of odd.

But hey, dogs eat their sh1t, too XD

No, really - I say let other organisms eat that and then other organisms eat that and so on and then in the end we can eat something that we understand as food. E.g. compost the human sh1t properly, feed it to the bacteria and then the worms and then to the plants. Why reinvent these processes when there are ways already to recycle sh1t in nature that not only are very efficient but also allow other life forms to take part in it... Ah - rhethorical question, I guess, I know the answer already - humans want to "take it all"...
