Nah, they said that in 2005, JC brought the idea up again. So it took four years to make the first one.

It took more time before that to create some of the necessary methods, although that's obviously already done now unless they're improving on them .

I can wait only if they finish all the deleted scenes of the original and give us a 4hr Avatar"

Maybe they're secretly developing a special Special Edition to come out? After all, rendering those scenes eats up some extra time, too...

And, yes, in the meantime I want that novel, as well!

That wouldn't delay production by 2 years, maybe a few months at the most if they made ALL the extra footage they had and only had the one server farm, which would also be free while they are shooting for the sequel until there are finished scenes that can then be processed.

To be honest, I seen that coming from a mile away.

A 'special' Special Edition? I need to go lie down.

Desperately need that novel but looks like we might have to wait a bit longer for that as well now.

I'm going to be very disappointed if the novel doesn't come out at least by 2014. The novel could help keep the fan base if the release is timed well (and not extremely late )

I doubt it about the special - there is a fanbase but I am not sure if it is so huge that it will pay off to make that effort - and it would be only the fans who would want a 4 hour Avatar. A novel OTOH - that is comparably cheap to produce, I think that will come out halfway through the waiting time to keep fans interested...

I wonder, too - they have all the techniques for shooting the sequel and rendering it and so on - whats the delay? I guess it is simply economics and tactics. JC works on other projects as well because he does not want to spend all his time on Avatar. I wonder why - does he need a break from it, do the actors "act up" and want more money (that is a common cause for delays), is he not convinced enough of a success of the sequels so that he does want to keep doing other movies as a buffer O.O
The longer the delay, the higher the fan expectations, I hope he does not rise that too much so that these expectations cannot be fulfilled at some point.

Possibly just a misunderstanding. Who knows?
