I am loving all of this! fierox, how long did it take you create the Neytiri and Jake models from scratch to where they are now? I'm guessing several months to a year right? Its really amazing work and if that's Maya you're using, awesome! I work with those programs everyday through school and I'm getting better at it each day.

Thanks Solian,

Great to be able to use those tools at school, thats how i learned the basics aswell.
Yes its Maya i'm using and i think you are right about the time it took.
Dont know in hours, I dont have as much time as i did in my school days unfortunatly. Then again, I kinda ruined school spending all my time on 3D, haha (no regrets )

Think most of the time went in rigging, learning new stuff like Maya muscle and documenting it.
Goodluck and enjoy it, if you have a question about Maya just ask

I want to use some typical Avatar plants aswell in the background so here is a quick render of a new plant i made.
Cant remember where i got it from but i believe it came from a concept drawing and the plant is called a Baja Tickler?

Think i will place it somewhere in a water/swamp like area, the rest of that scenery still needs to be made.
Added Neytiri for scale, if it gets a clear place in the scene i will add more detail and texture it aswell.

Yeah, that's from the background info in the game and the ASG.

Testing a new scene i'm working on, still needs to be tweaked.
Later the "leaves" will slowly move around in the wind and curl a bit so they do not look so flat.
Already pretty pc heavy tho

Wow.. Incredible stuff i just found this thread.

Out of curiosity (and I think you've said it before, i just can't remember), what kind of PC do you have hardware wise?

Thx! my hardware actually isnt that special, not sure ive said it earlier but i change it a bit too often anyway so its probably different again otherwise
The 3D work is a bit too heavy actually (i need to use low res models and layers more) so every bit of extra performance does help.
Currently its an old alienware case with an amd fx 8350 on a asus sabertooth bord with 16 gb ram and overclocked. I dont use professional video cards, personally think there too expensive so i have two amd 7950 cards also overclocked. They might go if the 8000 series will be any good. Its noisy but it does warm up the room pretty nice
Other then that it has two ssd's and a normal HD. For the drawing i use a wacom cintiq 12wx.

Another little update, made a quick model of the remote controlled dozer.
Hope i got it more or less correct, didnt have much for reference (and didnt look enough).
Anyway was fun todo, now to add some quick color and wear!

beep... beep... beep...

Thx! here it is again with some quick paint on it.
I only plan to use it in the background, overgrown by plants and a bit more destroyed.
When i have it placed in the scene ill see if and where to add more detail.
Mostly likely i already went further then needed with the tracks and stuff but was fun to do

Nice work

I can see a few differences from the one we see in the film, but it still looks great, and variations really aren't all that implausible anyway; hard to believe there would only be one model.
