Default Cameron sets world solo deep dive sub record

James Cameron just set the World Solo Sub Deep Dive Record at 5.1 miles, off Paupa, New Guinea!! Soon, he will go to the Ocean Floor of the Marianas Trench, 6.8 miles down!! He is bringing lights, cameras, and remote sampling gear, something that has NEVER been done before!!!

He should have brought a water/pressure-proof TV and shown Avatar to all the fishies.

Wow! Now that's motivation! He's really aiming to get another great Avatar 2 movie eh?

I don't know what he plans to get from deep oceans. Most of the animals there are white and squishy.

I guess that you have never seen an "Angler Fish" then Raiden.

I doubt JC is going down to the ocean floor to get inspiration from angler fish

Filmmaker James Cameron set the record this week for the world's deepest solo submarine dive and says he next plans to dive even deeper in a matter of weeks.
He was by himself? What a badass.

Don't be LOCO; moco, I was responding to the statement that things at those depths were "all pale and squishy".
At those depths, there are no doubt things that we have never seen, have NO conception of, and would make "Angler Fish" look TAME.

Actually, where he's going is too deep for Anglers.

Those usually live in the waters above the continental plane, the "plateau" where most abyssal canyons start.

Many deep sea fish species really can't handle the pressure down inside abyssal trenches. All currently known pelagic antennariid fish (and most other well-recognized "deep-sea" fish) live in the bathypelagic zone; this zone officially begins at 1000 meters (~3000 feet) and ends at 4000 meters (~12000 feet).

Cameron is descending to roughly 35,000 feet. There will be no anglerfish.

There have been fish recorded at absurd depths, but they aren't anglerfish, and most, if not all, have been benthic species that are white animals with weak muscles. They are largely smaller animals that subsist off of rotting material drifting down from above, as well as animals that subsist off of ecosystems powered by bacterial colonies (think like big clumps of bacteria as the main producers instead of trees and other plants).

The kinds of things usually found at these depths aren't terribly large or colorful (the same thing cannot be said about the animals that he might see while traveling to this depth), so I doubt he will be using them in designs for ocean critters in Av2.

WOW! That is incredible. Although, that tiny space he has to be in... just seeing it makes me feel claustrophobic.

I can tell that you have never flown a Formula one Race plane, or a super high performance sailplane. With the latter, if you are going for an altitude record, you also have an oxygen mask and high altitude cold weather clothing on.
