NOBODY lives forever, Mika. I have done some incredibly dangerous things in my life Mika, some of them,in front of my love, Ateyo, but if I was afraid of doing them, then I would NOT have done the LIVING that I did, I just would have "been on the planet".

I guess you could look at the claustrophobia-inspiring space exactly like a link chamber.
If you are concentrating on the wonder and experience that you are interacting with OUTSIDE of the chamber, then the machine becomes/provides an extension on one's one self.

He once said something to the effect that the footage he films at the bottom of Challenger Deep (due to occur in the next few weeks) may well end up in Avatar 2/3. So this is not just a great personal/scientific expedition but the start of filming for the Avatar sequels!

Just under an hour ago Cameron arrived at the bottom of the deepest known point in the ocean, and he's tweeting about it too!

Where is this mentioned? I'm only finding the "reached the bottom" stuff from five hours ago.

Anyway, I too cannot wait to see the images!

I, too, doubt we're going to see the Mariana Trench become a prototype for anything in Avatar 2. Certainly there will have been many inspirational discoveries along the way, but most expect the Trench to be a desert-like mud-plane. But! We shall see. Still, the process of getting there was doubtless amazing, and let's not forget that Cameron has done many, many other deep-ocean dives in recent years!

Wonderful news!
Congrats to JC and NatGeo on this awesome and historic achievement!
Glad JC is back safe and sound from the Trench.

Here's one video on the NatGeo website:
