Recording it from TV defeats the point a little; might as well just watch the bluray.

Which is what we DO. That way, we don't have to endure the inane commercial programing.

I don't have TV either. I have a STB... still sealed in it's AT&T-branded box in my attic somewhere. With internet, who needs television? (Not to mention most internet rips are higher quality than *cough* "U-Verse")

That's right, I get my local news and weather from the ElPaso ABC station, KVIA, across the internet, And I can recall the audio video loop of the entire Weather segment ANY time that I want, with NO commercials. WHO NEEDS TV. Certainly not Ateyo and I.

OK.... first commercial break is placed here:
Grace peering from the Samson's side door... "He won't make it 'til morning..." Samson 16 veers off towards sunset, cut to commercials... So, they chopped it only moments after Neytiri's first appearance. This is sad... very sad only...! ~*Txim Asawl*~

I don't know how company's keep from losing money with all the money that they spend with advertising. Perhaps I am very different than most people on this planet, but Commercials annoy the hell out of me. If you want to INSURE that I will NOT buy your product, go ahead and rub it in my face on TV, Radio, or the Internet. I will intentionally NOT buy your product, because you pissed me off. My insurance is through a small no name company, ALL of my vehicles are bought used, so no manufacturer gets any money from me, and all my food is on the Great Value label, so Nabisco, and P&G get no money from me, walmart does, and they have the least annoying advertising out there.
I am FIERCELY brand loyal, so for anyone to try to get me to change my brand loyalty would be counter productive. Niri Te |

It's not funny Iron, I am SURE that you have your favorite brands of booze.
I have five different 4 wheeled vehicles, ALL of them either Ford or Jeep, ALL of my motorcycles are built by Suzuki, I got my first one in 1968. My cameras have ALL been NIKON'S since 1968, and all of Ateyo's and my stringed instruments are all made by Fender. Brie |

You talk a lot about yourself and where you live and what you do, so I'm sure you realise that you are not representative of the vast majority of people. Suffice it to say, advertisers don't particularly care about you - it isn't anything personal, but they don't tend to throw good money after bad. If they WERE targeting people like you, they've got their priorities wrong.

Yeah, we will... it still annoys me to see a movie I like very much being chopped to pieces...

I used to have a rather large collection of movies on VHS recorded from TV. With the commercials edited out on-the fly during recording.
Of course they where still "edited for TV" in regard to content. My fave edit was the line in Spaceballs that was changed from "That's not a load of money, that's a ****-load of money" to simply "That's not a load of money, that's a load of money". - Mikko

Bah, I hate private TV with all that ads cluttered over it at the worst moments. You are in the middle of Pandoras forest adn then someone is trying to sell you a new car or a detergent or throw-away razorblades or any of the other stuff that clearly is at the opposite end of the environmentalism spectrum as the movie? Especially with Avatar, which I think has sort of a mildly hypnotic, psychedelic effect on people who watch it the first time, I think to place ads in this situation is not great for the overall effect. I am somewhat glad that the movie reached a broader audience by the free showing, but I agree to Txim that I would have preferred it showing in the public television without ads. But I guess they prefer to spend the money on soccer and olympic games. I bet though that the percentage of people disliking the movie is rather high if it is shown in this way - on a small screen with lots of commercials and in 2D only - the superficial story is after all not very complex and a lot of the "Extras" that make this movie really good are experienced much more by the effect of immersion into the setting, which is enhanced greatly by not being disturbed, by watching it on a large screen and by watching it in 3D. So I hope some people got the chance to see it and liked it and we dont get more "Pocahontas in space" sort of comments.
I guess almost anyone else who likes the movie a lot will be watching the DVD anyways - or go the movie theatre if you are lucky

I never have seen it in the movie house. The first time that I saw it, Tee and I were at our Air Force Veteran's house, and it had just started to roll the opening credits, not the first scenes, as we walked in. He has premium satellite TV, so there were NO commercials. It was NOT the director's cut though, but we loved it. Two days later, we had our own, Collectors Edition, DVD, that we set up to play the extra 18 minutes. We have seen it eleven times on DVD, and five times on Mo's satellite system.
That is the ONLY way to see it, large, flat screen plasma, surround sound at about 200 watts with the subwoofers turned all the way up. That is how we have seen it every time. Niri Te Last edited by Niri Te; 04-12-2012 at 05:45 AM. |
