I don't really want to see that either, but that's mostly because it'd be a bit of a genre shift. Avatar is not space opera.

He may bring the RDA up on other moons, or nearby planets, to literally strip them bare, taking a hunk of the profits, and building an invasion force for Pandora. NAAAH, Eywa wouldn't allow it, and JC, (Eywa's "boss") wouldn't WRECK his own message.
I think it would be cool if in the story, about a decade later, the humans finally manage to pull it off, and destroy the Ozone layer, Tsunami's and earthquakes follow, causing massive fires, and chemical spills, jacking greenhouse right through the ceiling, and within a decade, the earth's surface temperature resembles that of Venus. Just before the last humans die, three ISV's head for Pandora, and the Human's hat and egos in hand BEG the Na'vi to ask Eywa to allow the last 150 humans from Earth alive to please live on Pandora, to learn the ways of the Na'vi. Well, lets, see. Earthquake off the cost of Japan causes Tsunami, and TAKES OUT a nuke plant. A fair amount of radiation leaked from that, but no where NEAR what happened in Russia several decades ago. A few decades before THAT was the Chemical release into the atmosphere in India, How many did that one kill? NOW let's just assume that we can keep Iran and Israel from trading their nuclear weapons back and forth, THAT scenario could do some SERIOUS damage to the environment even IF it did stay local, which it would NOT, but let's just say they we can get the Muslims and Jews to all sit in a corner and sing "KUM-BAH-YAH. The Arctic ice is disappearing at an amazing rate, not storyline, REAL WORLD. hurricanes and tornados are beginning to get pretty frequent and more powerful. Hurricanes are slow enough that we get plenty of warning, and can "harden" industries for their impact, but over the last few years the number and strength of tornados just in this Country have been growing. Let's just say that a "super Cell" develops over Houston, and spawns two F5's and an F3, the F5's rip through the refineries, tearing them apart, causing massive fires, and spills, and the F3 hits the oil transfer facility, tearing out transfer lines from tankers, More spills, and, not caused by the tornadoes, but a week later the "big one, hits the San Andreas Fault, causing several others along the Pacific "Rim of Fire" to also let go within a month. Care to guess what the earthquakes and their resultant Tidal waves would do to coastal oil transfer ports, nuclear reactors in poorer countries that DON'T build them like they are built in the more advanced countries? HELL just the oil fires that Saddam's army set off in the desert after we kicked his *$$ in Desert *$$ whipping round one, did tremendous damage to the environment. All of this is not discussing the possibility of several volcanoes erupting. The Geologic record of the blast at Etna can be seen in the strata around the world. This is just real quick as I am typing it. If things went off the deep end on this planet, things would get very, very bad very very fast. Back to the Muslims and the Jews. No one knows exactly how close the Iranians ARE to having their own weapon, but their rockets are a LOT more reliable that the North Korean ones. Imagine what would happen if North Korea smuggled a few warheads into Iran, for the Iranians to mount on THEIR rockets. THEY don't NEED to build one. Niri Te |

I think that we have a couple of physicists and chemists on this site, I have a question. Has anyone ever done a study to figure out what if any new chemicals or compounds would be created in the heat of a nuclear fireball if a weapon were detonated directly over a city with huge oil refining, and oil storage fields?

Keeping in mind all of the disasters you've just listed above, consider somewhere like... Germany. It receives no hurricanes, no earthquakes or volcanoes and Explain to me again how this "Pollution causes the end of the world" thing works again. ![]() Quote:

I just think it could be so many things, and to fully appreciate whatever plot occurs (short of scientific inaccuracies), I have to keep an open mind about this.

@ Niri Te-
Its definitely a sad age to live in where we are beginning to see things disappear forever. Luckily there are still many amazing ecosystems that are surviving but I feel horrible for what our children or grandchildren may miss out on in the next few decades. I think its definitely something we should all take a bigger glance at and exercise a little due diligence before we end up losing everything for good.
