Welcome, UltraArt

If people want to get this thread going, I'm all for it again - I think the easiest way would be to have two - a UK/europe one and a US one.

How about wherever the sequel is premiered for the very first time, we all meet up there and be among the first in the world to see it? Would that place be...London, perhaps? I guess it's still up in the air for a few more years, but it would be nice to have an excuse to go to London again.

Of course, you're all welcome to hold a giant meet-up here in California where I live...

I would be interested in going. California is close to Hawaii... So I think I would be able to go if I wanted to. Although, I would probably need an interpreter LOL and some money to actually buy some food and tickets Lmao

If this would be intended for Avatar 2's release, I would love to attend both.

I think the bigger issue here would be to find a place in the U.S. where as many people as possible (so a vote by majority) would be able to make it to, since the U.S. is so huge, and because we have people that are sort of clustered in Alaska/PNW, Southeast, and the Northeast.

Let me know what you think......

Hmm... This is all jolly exciting. *I've just had a quick look through the thread so apologies if I am repeating stuff.

Just some questions and sorry if they sound a little unhelpful but they are to help really.

Ok, what is the purpose of the meet up? Is it to what Avatar 2 when it is released or earlier than that to bring us together? Either would be cool. The reason I ask is this might change where it could be held. If it is for Avatar 2 then the premier will dictate where it is. But if it is sooner then we would have more freedom.

Maybe if it is sooner then a convention type event could be held? Perhaps at a conference centre? Or maybe somewhere that there is a local cinema that could get a copy of Avatar to show over a weekend?

I know of an IMAX cinema in Birmingham (UK) that might be obliging as they showed our forum film (Our Only Home) before Avatar when I arranged a meet up to see Avatar SE. *Six of us made it to the meet up then.

But if we are talking mass meet up, ie convention, I think we need to have some activities. Here's some thoughts:
Costume comp
Costume role play
Swap meet
Avatar related sales stands
Cinema for fan films
Fan fic readings
Fan art gallery
Try and get some members of the cast and crew to come along to answer question and do thautograph thing
Na'vi lessons
Film prop exhibition
Behind the scenes technology demo like performance capture for people to try
Hell, we could see if they could scan our faces to turn us into Na'vi and incorporate us into the film!
Show Avatar, SE, CE
Competition to win Avatar stuff
Environmental related activities, like knowledge sheets to take home to help us change our ways, tree planting sessions
Make the challenge to get to the convention without using a car, ie public transport instead, etc

There is probably more stuff that I can't thing of at the moment. The trick is to make it as accessible to as many people as possible. So it would need to be held somewhere with good transport links as not everyone has a car or can drive.

I definitely think we should invite all Avatar clans to get involved. *Also with something like this and possibly of this size I think we would be looming at getting professional help to organise it and they know how to do these things. *Of course it doesn't have to be this big. It could just be a meet up or something. *Whatever we do we really need a good idea of how many would be interested, how far they would be willing to travel, where they are located, how long the event should be, what time of year would be best and how much they would be willing to pay to attend the event (not including travel or accommodation)

Sorry I kinda went on a bit there and had a bit of a mJor brain dump, but I hope it is useful food for thought. *We just have to do it. The Star Wars and Star Trek fans do it so I'm sure we can!

Thoughts anyone?

Well, the original idea for this wasn't specifically for Avatar 2 - as for what we have going on, I guess it really depends on the scale of it in terms of location, venue and numbers - if we make it really big and get all the clans involved, we could possibly get even more than that, or it could just be a small(ish) gathering - it really depends on interest.

If we get actualy cast and crew to come (Sam or Zoe would be awesome haha) I would save up now, alot of what Alan said was a very good idea (I would laugh to hard roll playing xD) If we made this into more than a bunch of people metting up (with cast and crew) alot of people might show up...the possiblilities

Well I guess the first place to start is to simply canvas everyone on all the forums. The ones I know of are ToS (of course ), AF, NaviBlue and Avatar Prime. Are there any others. Next is there a way, as an admin type person, to send everyone a PM or something to direct them to a pole or thread or get them to answer the following questions:
  1. Would they be interested in attending?
  2. How interested are they(scale 1 to 10) if it was in their home country and if it was not?
  3. How far they would be willing to travel: Few miles/km, across their country, to a neighboring country, across the world?
  4. Which country do they live in?
  5. How long do they think the event should be: A day, A weekend, A long weekend, a week?
  6. What time of year would be best?
  7. how much they would be willing to pay to attend the event (not including travel or accommodation)?
  8. What sort of activities would they like to see?
If we were to get the answers to these questions and maybe other good ones that I haven't thought of, the info would help gauge what sort of event it would be. From a small meet up to local meet ups on the same day, to a convention somewhere to multiple conventions on the same day linked up together live!!! Ooops sorry getting ahead of myself there, but once we do know the level of interest then we could take it to the next level to progress it further. But until we know what is needed we are a bit stuck I think.

I will to help polish off the above questions and stuff if we really want to do this. Maybe we need a group setting up if it helps? Duno. Just throwing some ideas out there.

Learnnavi as well, I'm active there as well

That's a great idea - perhaps we could come up with other questions first, I thought of one -
would they be interested in a private screening of Avatar? - they would need to contribute a part of the cost so obviously this would only work if we had enough people
