With that amount of time I'm sure it's safe to say it most likely will not be happening. Anything is possible though.

Hi,

This is actually still very much being planned. Most of it is in fact already done, as can be seen here:

TEST INSTANCE Tree Of Souls

And all that remains is some polish and the actual account migration. I'm not handling the account migration so I have to be somewhat ambiguous here, but by the time the sequels hit, the new forums should have been running for a while and working like a charm.

I'm sorry for the lack of communication here, and of course the huge delay in actually getting the final parts done - in either case the plan is still to have this up and running by the time the community will start rallying around the sequels again

And just as a reassurance, all received donations have been and are still being used for their intended purpose - initially the purchasing of a XenForo license and from then on continuous server costs.

Also, long time no see! I should start posting more often

Will the upgraded version still have a Shoutbox?

If there's demand for it, I'm sure we can implement one

Oh I'm so happy to hear that this project is still on! No worries, I figured that the forum would be upgraded in 2020 just before the sequels hit. The good news is the delay gives us more time and a chance to test it to be sure everything is working properly before the inevitable influx of fans both old and new. I had forgotten that this project was started in 2015. It seems like this was just last year, and that just blows my mind! Anyway, I hadn't seen the new version in a while, but it still looks great! I haven't donated since the launch of this project; so I put a few bucks in on it earlier.

I'm going to try to be more active myself. We need activity here to keep spirits high.

Thanks for the update! I'm glad it's still planned!

However the security certification is expired.

Exciting.

Also exciting to think about how much traffic will happen once the sequels release. And there'll be us. The veterans. Awaiting the new fans who're the age we were when we were first introduced.

Truly exciting. And I'll be returning more fully when that happens.

I hope the site can handle it. Sometimes I come here and the site has a database error and isn't available for a few hours. Still, that's years away so if any changes need to be made, they don't need to be made now.

Please excuse me as this is my first post on here (I thought I had signed up previously but it appears that I hadn't).

I've been a long time lurker here at the TOS and it's been a great resourse over the years. But it's sad to see that 'forums' have become a thing of the past since the likes of social media...

I love Avatar and it's a great hobby of mine, especially to collect mech over the years and of course watch the movie (which I'm currently doing while writing this post). But, another of my loves is creating and running forums. I was looking around on Google when I was remembed of this site (in preperation of Avatar 2 all them years ago) along with a few others which seems to have vanished.

It's been in my head (for a while) that I wanted to start an Avatar forum (using the latest software optimised for Mobiles/Tablets, etc. But instead of creating one from scratch, I thought I might be able to buy/own or run an existing site which will keep the years of topics/posts and build upon it with the future releases of the films.

However, it seems that project here at TOS for upgrading the forums which has been going on for some time has halted?

Is the site still active? Are people still wanting a forum? Are people willing to help?

I'd love to know the above and see what other think on the sites future.

I personally run a few sites, one with over 35,000+ members for a car club here in the UK, I've been apart of the team since 2007 when I first joined to create small banners and advertising for them and eventually worked my way up when others left.

I started a new project in the last two years which is only just starting to get traction but we're up to 350 members currently and growing each day.

I'm not an expert in servers or software but I've learn't over the years by myself with runing sites.

Anyway I've waffled on for long enough... If the site Admin is interested please do get in touch. I have access to servers (through a friend) and could probably sort out a deal.

I hope everyone is excited for AVATAR 2 I know I am! It's been far to long!!!!!

All the best,
TPTE.

Hi,

I completely agree that the demise of independent internet forums is a sad thing, and one that leads to a less decentralized internet in general. Platforms such as Facebook, Reddit, Twitter etc. have their strengths - in particular ease of use - but they also lead to a more impersonal and less diverse network of online communities which really is unfortunate.

The activity of ToS has declined a lot in the last half decade, mainly for two reasons - time passing since the release of the movie, and people moving away from these sort of communities in general. Tree of Souls and Learn Na'vi were always the ones to stick around the longest - this site because it was always more about the community and people and less about the movie, and Learn Na'vi because it could focus on the specifics of learning the language which transcends engagement of the film itself.

But as you've observed, even so there's less and less activity in general. I think the reasons are logical and I wouldn't want to force anyone to stick around, but nonetheless I agree with you that there's still room for this community to exist and I would never want it to go away.

To answer your question, the plans to move to a modern platform for ToS are still in place and in fact mostly complete - it's just the actual database migration that remains. Life has a tendency to get in the way of these things but as the release of the next movie gets closer, I think we'll be able to finish this up entirely.

I appreciate your offer for assistance and we might take you up on that in the future - but for now it's mostly a matter of a single internal process. In either case, thank you for your post, and be assured that we're still around and will be for as long as I can imagine

And thank you for getting back to me!

I believe this sort of community with a message board (forums) is far superior to Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Your posts will never be lost, and everyone can join in our conversations. I personally gave up with FB and Twitters. I got fed up of trying to find a post, topic, or help guide. This is where forums really do come into their own.

The offer is always there, I just like being involved in these sort of things that interest me and I really want to hold on to the 'community feeling' that software like this provides. I'll be sure to stick around and pop in once and a while, even more so once we get closer to the release of Avatar 2.

There will also always be a small community of regulars who will keep ToS going no matter what. I will never stop coming to ToS. It's been nearly ten years that I've been a part of this amazing community./

Neither will I. Almost been ten years for me too. Can't believe it's been that long but I still make it a point to visit nearly every single day and see what's going on.

ThePathToEywa, if I knew how it worked I would suggest that you buy the domain avatar-forums.com and somehow resurrect all the posts that were on it before the site's quality went south before finally dying. Alas, I know diddly squat about running internet forums so my suggestion is worth as much.

It's neat considering your post though. Welcome to non-lurker status, and definitely stick around here.

I have seen some previous posts about the above site and back then it was the only other place to go.

Does anyone know what happened to it? I did try to get on it the other day strangely enough. Also, does the owner still have the database and files or even willing to hand it over... If anyone does know the owner, let them know that I’d be interested.
