Default Greatest Female Characters In TV/Movies.

I have to admit that in most TV/Movies, it is the female characters that tend to catch my imagination, and indeed my adoration. Over the years, I have fallen in love or been besotted by numerous fictional female characters.

In Avatar we have one of the best female characters ever to grace the screen in TV and movies. Obviously, in this forum there are plenty places to read about and talk about Neytiri including the following:

The 'Why We Love Neytiri' Commentary Series.
Neytiri Is Devastatingly Beautiful.

But I would like to dedicate this thread to other female characters. So please who have caught your imagination in film and TV?

Rather than just make a list, please select a character and give a brief desription why you like her. Of course, if you do prefer to make a list, then please do so.

I personally have a big list. But I will add one every so often just to keep the thread going. Hopefully others will contribute or respond to other posts.

Michelle Rodriguez

But apart from Avatar, the first that comes to my mind is Lisa Cuddy from House MD. Not because of her look, but rather her character (I love how House talks about her).

Willow Rosenberg - Buffy the Vampire Slayer (Seasons 1-5)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Willow_Rosenberg

My analysis only relates to Season 1 to 5 as I am not a big fan of S 6 and 7. For me the Buffy series ends when Buffy dies at the end of S5. If anyone wants to add anything further on Willow on S6/7, then I would be interested to hear that.

For a few years in the mid-noughties, Willow was my favourite fictional female character of all time. I liked Buffy a lot, but in general, as a character, I prefer Willow.

In the Buffy series, she is arguably the character who changes and develops the most in the whole series.

As a person, Willow is the sort of girl that every guy should love, but seems to fall under everyone's radar. She is loyal, loving, tolerant, modest, funny and pretty. And yet, no one seems to notice, except the viewer.

Willow was an unusual character for her time because she was protrayed as the geek genius in S1/2, a characterisation often reserved for teenage boys.

At first she is portayed as a computer genius. But it is when she learns magic that we really see her power. We effectively learn with Willow and we see all her turn from a computer nerd into a powerful witch throughou the seasons. In fact, her magic becomes so important that Buffy comes to depend on it, not that Willow realises that.

And that is why I love Willow. She represents outer fragility surrounding a core of absolute power. In a sense she represents the superiority of substance over form. By the end of S5, Willow has become a very powerful Witch. In my perception of the Buffyverse (which denies the existence of S6/7), she becomes even more poweful and an important character in the fight against the demons, perhaps as important as the next slayer.

Of course, the other reason I like her is that she is physically attractive. But she has a modest kind of beauty that is not imposing. It is the passive sort of beauty you fall into, rather than that which hits you like a sledgehammer.

In short, Willow will always be one of my favourite fictional characters, and represents an archtype of woman that I am attracted to.

You were quicker off the mark than me there.

I have to admit that I haven't watched House, so I don't know the character. What do you like about her?

And she looks physically attractive to me, if not exactly my type.

Well, she's pretty and all, but what I love from her is how she turns when House is around.

Cuddy: Good morning, Dr. House.
House: Good morning, Dr. Cuddy! Love that outfit. Says, I’m professional, but I’m still a woman. Actually, it sorta yells the second part.
Cuddy: Yeah, and your big cane is real subtle too.
House: (Leaving quickly) Gotta Go.

House: It's five-o'clock. I'm going home.
Cuddy: To what?
House: [sarcastically] Nice.

Dizzy Flores - Starship Troopers

Google Image Result for http://www.universeguide.com/Pictures/DizzyFloresFace.jpg

"Yum, yum, yum."

Since I mentioned her in the Greatest Males thread, it is only right that I mention her here.

Before Neytiri, Dizzy Flores was my favourite fictional characters from the movies (if not from TV).

Just as ZenitYerkes says about Lisa Cuddy, Dizzy is extremely attractive, but it is not that alone that makes her such a special character for me.

Dizzy sums up what most men would like in a woman. As well as being attractive, she is corageous, intelligent and loyal. But it is her devotion to Jonny Rico that appealed to me most. She followed him everywhere because she truly loved him. And it was one of the sad things in the movie that Rico held off for so long.

I was pleased when they got together, but I was so sad when she died. I have to say that I cried when she died in his arms and missed her in the latter part of the movie.

I like Starshiptroopers for many reasons and Dizzy certainly made her contribution.

Kahlan Amnel - Legend of the Seeker

http://sot.wikia.com/wiki/Kahlan_Amnell
http://images2.fanpop.com/images/pho...39-653-841.jpg

Of the more recent series to come out, Kahlan has definately caught my attention.

She is definately beautiful. In Kalan's case there is no hidden or subtle beauty. She just simply is beautiful. Also she tends to wear clothes that shows off her figure. And in the second season she she wears a slit skirt than shows some flesh. With Kahlan, it's hard to know where to look.

I have to admit that the things that I like about Kahlan are the things that make her a super-woman rather than a normal woman.

She is compassionate, independent and determined. But the thing that appeals to me most is her confessor powers and her ability to wield two knives in combat and slaughter well armoured professional soldiers by the dozen.

She is especially impressive in the blood rage when no one can stand in her way.

Kahlan is the archtypal modern beautiful heroine. She loves and fights her way through life for freedon and justice with an almost obsessive passion, always struggling to balance the needs of compassion and ruthlessness.

I would like to hear more. I don't know Pocahontas. Just because some haters use Pocahontas in a negative way to criticise Avatar, it doesn't mean that the character hasn't got her merits.

Why would you be kidding? Kahlan has many er...attributes...that are appealing. And it looks like you agree with me on some of them, or at least two of them.

Ho I was just being careful, you know some people would react with a feminist lecture to such comments. But you seem to understand my point(s), don't you

Well physical attractiveness is always going to be a factor for both female and male characters.

Teyla Emmagan - Stargate Atlantis

File:Teyla Emmagan (Stargate).jpg - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

One of my favourite secondary characters is definately Telya from SG Atlantis. She is not beautiful in the classic sense. But she has this absoltuely enigmatic sultry exotic look which never fails to gain my full attention. In summary it is hard to keep my eyes off her.

In terms of character, she is really your typical noughties herione. She is physically strong woman who can fight and is determined to protect her people, but has a strong dose of compassion and empathy. And as expected from exotic heriones, she also has extra-human psychic abilities.

Teyla is a great all round character. She looks good, she talks sweet and she is portrayed as physically strong, decisive and independent. What is not to like.
