I have heard a number of times about the connections shared betwean Avatar and "The Emerald Forest" (1985) I watched the film for the first time last night and was deeply moved by the films deep story that reflects upon our core humanity inside as well the deep connections tribal community familys share.
We all know about the issues the Kayapo native people in Brazil are facing with a massive dam building project (The Belo monte dam) and James Camerons direct involvement with the Kayapo people.
Simply stated this film touches on many of the same deep core human issues that made Avatar so powerful and I highly recomend people take the time to watch it . as I understand its based upon a True story
http://www.nativeamericanfilms.org/ef-truestory.html

Thank you for sharing. there is real hope our people will come to realise the deep scars native peoples face going back generations (This is not something we can be told,, We must truly "feel "this from our heartfelt core understanding,)
"But" the issues they face "today" In the Amazon are a life or death issue for there people Its my hope and dream that our people will come to understand this from there hearts and to stand with them in respect. The Kaiapo have invited the Cameron and Avatar 2 Cast and crew to spend time with there family to see first hand what its like to live in the rainforest and to sit down with there community and talk face to face , Cameron has said "If I had known the Kaiapo (Caiapo) before I had made Avatar I could have made a much better film" that would more closely mirror the deep issues native peoples face trying to survive in our world today.

He plans to shoot a 3D "experiential" documentary about the plight of the region's people and their battle against Belo Monte.
NICE!

But even better....

The film-maker revealed in January that Avatar parts two and three would be shot back to back and released in December 2014 and 2015. He said a certain amount of the profits from the series would go to environmental causes.

A little late replying on this ,, Yes again I have seen it a number of times ,, its a powerful film with reflections on parts of Avatar as well as the real battle to halt the Belo monte Dam project. the film also suffers from Cultural Authenticity issues in some scenes .
I like the story and its "feel" its very spiritual as well a very interesting fact is The film is said to based in part on a true story and most people are unaware of this,
The film does have very strong in your face Tribal Nudity aspects that give it an strong R rating
so this limits the films viewing audience , and is one of the core reasons why they made effort with Avatar
to keep its PG-13 rating .

The film ends with a haunting message: "The rain forests of the Amazon are disappearing at the rate of 5000 Acres per day. Four million Indians once lived there. 120 000 remain. A few tribes have never had contact with the outside world. "They still know what we have forgotten."

Read James Cameron's Sworn Declaration on How He Created 'Avatar' (Exclusive) | Hollywood Reporter

JC definitely references Emerald Forest in his court cases, which he won the three that went to court and the other five were dismissed by judges, and after watching Emerald Forest last night, i definitely see material in it that inspired JC, much more than any other similar films.
