Exclamation Babakiueria (“Barbecue Area”) 1986

I just saw a tiny bit of this short film (The film is about 30 mins) in my Australian Popular Culture class at University this morning and I just had to share it with you guys. It stars many aboriginal people and basically flips the whole history of white interaction with Aboriginals on its head and shows what would happen if the same thing happened to the white Australians instead..It even has the arrival of the first fleet done with Aboriginals coming from the boats amongst the growing crowd of white people watching from the shore. Abosulutely brilliant stuff, a great sendup. It really makes you think about all these sterotypes that still exist and how wrong they really are. I recommend this to all, both Australians and Non Australians as it can fill you in on some of the events such as the Government advising hospitals and carers to remove childen from their Aboriginal mothers to bring them up asAnglo Saxons. Heralding the Stolen Generation.

A popular culture class, sounds cool. I don't know how I feel about this video though But then again, I don't live in Australia, so maybe I haven't got the best perspective

That woman's voice puts me to sleep.

Hahaha. XD
In all seriousness though I think the movie is pretty good because Australia has had a history of having White people in power deciding what they should do for Aboriginal people ie the White Man's Burden. So it's good to see that those perspectives are being addressed and ridiculed in a way by showing the history of white relations with Aboriginal people from the other way around. The Anglo-Australian now can see what things could be like from the 1788 invasion onwards from a perspective that could be similar to the Aboriginals and any indigenous peoples from the world when foreign people settled in their land.
